Mattias Ekstrom admits a mistake with his car set-up was the reason for his failure to qualify any higher than tenth position for the eighth round of the DTM at the Nurburgring.
The championship leader was hoping to be in a position to put the title further out of reach for his rivals, but has work to do to maintain a run of form that had yielded five podiums in seven races from the fifth round of the grid.
Indeed, with team-mate and closest rival Martin Tomczyk claiming pole position, Ekstrom admits he has work to do to in the race. Nonetheless, the Audi driver is confident he can still put up a good fight.
“Of course that's not the result I'd been hoping for. We headed in the wrong direction with the set-up and my car had too much understeer. Sunday will now be very interesting.”
