Bruno Spengler has vowed to fight hard for victory in the eighth round of the DTM, despite facing the onslaught of three Audis at the front of the Nurburgring grid while he starts fourth.
The Canadian was the best of the Mercedes' on the grid at the end of a qualifying session that was seemingly set to be dominated by the three-pointed star, but was instead hijacked by Martin Tomczyk, Timo Scheider and Tom Kristensen in first, second and third.
Nonetheless, Spengler claims a small mistake was the reason for his failure to score pole position, and with just a tenth covering the top four, the title contender is confident he can challenge in the race over longer-runs.
“I am happy with my qualifying result. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake during my final run which cost me a place on the front row. However, tomorrow is another day and with the weather here at the Nürburgring everything is possible.
"Our long-runs on Friday looked very competitive in the rain as well as on a dry track, so I am confident for the race.”
