Christian Abt bade farewell to the DTM at last weekend's Hockenheim finale, and was sent on his way, among other things, by a 120 cases of traditional Bavarian weissbier
The Audi stalwart is the only driver besides Bernd Schneider to have contested the DTM in all its eight seasons since 2000, and a special party was held at the Audi VIP Hospitality on Friday night to mark his farewell. The special attraction of the gift was the label on the bottles emblazoned with a picture of the racer as well as a message saying 'Christian's Weissbier. Brewed according to the 1967 Bavarian full-throttle rules'.
Numerous team members had signed a banner, while three others spanning a total area of almost 1000 square metres were suspended above the heads of the fans in the stands during the formation laps on Sunday. Finally, just before his 84th DTM race, Christian Abt was presented with a specially designed motor scooter by the ITR and all his racing colleagues.
Former Audi team-mate Laurent Aiello even returned to the DTM for a weekend, acting as DJ at Abt's farewell bash before turning his attentions, along with current Audi pilot Alex Premat, to the Rugby World Cup.
