Ludwig joins Speedcar circus.

Following on the heels of Uwe Alzen, who made an immediate impact on the category on his debut in Dubai last month, DTM and sportscar legend Klaus Ludwig is to join the Speedcar Series when it reconvenes in Indonesia this weekend.

Phoenix Racing, which ran Alzen in the UAE double-header, will field a second car for Ludwig at Sentul, the Alternative Capital Invest-sponsored machine having been reserved for a different celebrity driver at each of the four remaining events this season.

The 59-year old German is perhaps most well remembered for his win in the 1979 Le Mans 24 Hours, when his Kremer Porsche 935 - based on the 15-year old Porsche 911 road car design - beat faster prototypes in a wet race, as much as for his DTM titles, and enjoyed something of a reputation for coming out of retirement if the chance to drive something different arose. His Speedcar debut will be no different.

"Phoenix Racing is happy to now have two cars racing in Speedcar," team manager Dirk Theimann said, "The series is an excellent platform in the Middle East and Asia for us to meet high calibre partners and sponsors such as ACI. Having two Speedcars driven by stellar talents also now gives us a better chance of competing for the Speedcar Series title."

Ludwig will be the first of several 'legends' to drive the ACI entry, backed by a German real estate development 'boutique' based in the UAE, as the Speedcar Series finally stages its first point-scoring event after a number of false starts. Gianni Morbidelli won both events in Dubai three weeks ago.
