Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will auction off Gary Paffett's race-winning C-Class car to raise funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

The former champion drove to victory at Oschersleben last season with the 2006 car, which carried support for Laureus during the 2007 campaign.

The car will be auctioned off by Christies, with bidding coming to a close on 4 April.

"Everybody at Mercedes-Benz is delighted with having the chance of making another significant contribution to supporting the Laureus for Good Foundation by auctioning off the Laureus AMG Mercedes C-Class," Mercedes-Benz motorsport director Norbert Haug said. "With this move, our motor-racing involvement supports unprivileged children and juveniles. The revenues of the auction will be used for the benefit of important sports projects worldwide.

"Since the foundation was created, more than 130,000 children have already been supported. Quite obviously, we hope to achieve an amount clearly higher than the minimum bidding price amounting to EUR300,000. Every additional Euro will help to start new Laureus Sport for Good Foundation projects and keep on supporting those already existing."
