Engel aims to open account.

Maro Engel will look to bounce back from the disappointment of the Nurburgring as the DTM heads to Brands Hatch later this month for the eighth round of the year.

The Mercedes rookie qualified in an impressive eighth place in challenging conditions at the Nurburgring but saw his hopes of a top-eight finish disappear when his engine shut down shortly after the start and he was later involved in an incident with Katherine Legge.

However, Engel heads to Brands Hatch with the benefit of circuit knowledge following two years racing in British Formula Three and he admitted that breaking into the points for the first time was his aim for the weekend.

“It won't be a disadvantage,” he told Crash.net Radio when asked if his time in Britain would give him an advantage over his rivals. “We'll have to see how we get on on the Friday and if we work through our programme and get the testing done. Then we can draw some conclusions about what is possible, but it isn't like some circuits which I have to learn.

“It is great to come back to the UK where I spent two years racing in British F3. I have good memories of the UK and good memories of Brands Hatch where I held the lap record for a year. I'm looking forward to it and it should be a good weekend for us.

“A points result would make me happy, that is the aim. At the Nurburging it was a shame as the race pace was good but the first corner incident made it hard. Certainly at Brands we will look to break that duck.”
