2008 DTM champion Timo Scheider won the fifth round of the DTM today at Oschersleben to give Audi its 50th victory in the German tin-top series.
Scheider took the lead at the first corner and after that he only had to temporarily relinquish his first place during the two mandatory pit stops.
In the end, following the 48 laps, he crossed the line in his Audi A4 DTM 5.147 seconds up on his closest rival. It was his first victory of the season.
"That was a good weekend for me. Being on the winning way again is a great feeling. Of course, people are paying even more attention when you are the defending champion. Being the prey is not easy at all," said Scheider.
"After the start, I was able to control the race. But while it may have looked easy it wasn't. It was really hard.
"Losing the lead of the standings at Zandvoort was painful. Now I am right back in the title fight though. Many, many thanks to the team - the car, and the pit stops today were perfect."
Behind Scheider, fellow Audi driver Mattias Ekström came home second, taking advantage of a small mistake by his team-mate Martin Tomczyk on lap 2.
Second place moves Ekström up to joint first in the DTM standings with Gary Paffett. Both have 28 points on the board, while Scheider is one point behind in third.
Martin Tomczyk meanwhile took the final spot on the podium, his best result of the season, and this gave Audi a clean sweep of the rostrum positions.
"The 50th pole position for Audi in the DTM at Zandvoort and now the 50th victory – two nice numbers on the occasion of the Audi's brand's centenary," said Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, head of Audi Motorsport. "Our drivers Timo Scheider, Mattias Ekström, Martin Tomczyk and the team did an absolutely flawless job today and dominated the race. I'm proud of this performance."
Paul di Resta was next up and the top Mercedes man in fourth, having fought his way up from ninth on the grid.
