Paffett ends victory drought

Gary Paffett made the most of perfect tactics to secure his first DTM victory for two years at Lausitz.

The Briton elected to leave both of his mandatory pit-stops to at late as possible as he moved his way towards the front and he was left to fend off the challenge of fellow Mercedes man Bruno Spengler to take victory.

“I don't know what was wrong at Hockenheim, but today, everything was just perfect,” Paffett said, “especially the strategy that my team worked out was the key to success. This is going to be a great season. I am already looking forward to Norisring in four weeks' time.”

Spengler's strategy also helped him during the race as he secured a place on the podium, while third went the way of polesitter Mattias Ekstrom, who was able to hold off the challenge of Paul di Resta.

Timo Scheider took fifth ahead of Jamie Green, while Mike Rockenfeller and Maro Engel completed the top eight.

Having led the way going into the weekend, Tom Kristensen endured a tough weekend after falling in the second stage of qualifying and then picking up two penalties during the race as he trailed in down in twelfth place.

Kristensen's failure to score means Scheider now holds the championship lead going into the third round of the year.

At last Paffett has a car to show his talent and delivers the goods for Merc a brilliant victory! Now how about a Prodrive / Aston Martin drive next year?
