Hockenheimring: Glock wins rain-soaked Hockenheim finale

BMW's Timo Glock clinches a maiden DTM victory at Hockenheim's season finale amid a rain-dominated roller coaster of a race.
Timo Glock has taken an incredible maiden DTM victory at an utterly crazy rain dominated Hockenheim season finale for BMW while Mercedes' Roberto Merhi also achieved a career best second place.

Glock had originally dropped to ninth on the opening lap following a poor getaway by the German, the MTEK-man also tagging BMW team mate Augusto Farfus into a spin during turn 2 for good measure.

However, the former F1-star clawed his way back into fifth by lap 2 as Bruno Spengler, Andy Priaulx and Dirk Werner led the way.

Glock over the course of the first stint dispatched the BMW's of Priaulx and Werner before beginning to catch race leader Spengler.

While the Canadian, and most of the field, pitted on around lap 14, Glock continued on his worn wet tyres as the track continued to dry, putting more and more clean air between himself and Spengler who couldn't match the front-runners pace on the newer tyre.

Glock was not alone in this strategic game of chess as Audi's Mattias Ekstrom also followed suit with the rookie Mercedes pairing of Dani Juncadella and Merhi joining to make a lead quartet.

Amazingly Merhi emerged in the lead as a result of pitting a lap earlier than Glock on lap 30, but it didn't take long for the German to re-catch and pass the young Spaniard for the lead, staying there until the chequered flag.

Glock's debut victory was also the first for his MTEK team which helped BMW claim the DTM manufacturer's championship.

Merhi's second place was all the more impressive after receiving a drive through penalty for jumping the start, dropping him near the back of the field.

Spengler held onto third place despite coming under the increasing pressure of Audi's Ekstrom who eventually had to settle for fourth.
