Schneider's perfect weekend - Hockenheim.

Bernd Schneider won the opening DTM race today at Hockenheim just ahead of the second placed finisher Marcel Fassler.

It completed a perfect weekend for the D2 Mercedes driver after taking pole position in qualifying; being fastest in the warm-up and top runner in the sprint race.

Despite a totally dominant performance from the 2000 DTM reigning champion over the Hockenheim weekend second placed Fassler put pressure on him towards the end of the race by closing within half a second by the last lap.

Fassler though who had been helped by the safety car period, which was brought out after Martin Tomczyk crashed his Audi, could find no way by and had to be content with second.

The final podium place went to Schneider's teammate Peter Dumbreck in the other D2 AMG Mercedes. Fourth and fifth were Uwe Alzen in his Warsteiner AMG Mercedes and Tomas Jager in his Persson Mercedes. Rounding off the top six was ex-F1 driver Pedro Lamy in his Rosberg Mercedes.
