Continuing a long-line of Renault F1 personnel to have graced the streets of the city, Fernando Alonso has been inked as the headline act for this year's Bavaria City Racing spectacle in Rotterdam.

Following in the wheeltracks of current team-mate Nelson Piquet Jr and predecessor Heikki Kovalainen, both of whom appeared in 2007, and former associated drivers Robert Doornbos and Sakon Yamamoto, from 2008, the double world champion will drive one of the latest ING-backed Renault grand prix cars on the specially-constructed 2km layout - taking in the Willemsbrug, Coolsingel and Hofplein - during F1's summer break.

"My team-mate Nelsinho, who drove twice in Rotterdam, told me some great stories about the event and the enthusiastic audience," Alonso commented, "Now I hope to entertain all the fans along the track with an impressive demonstration."

The Spaniard is the first big name confirmed for the 2009 event, but organisers hope to attract others in the coming weeks. Renault representatives Doornbos and Yamamoto were joined by Toyota's Jarno Trulli and Force India pair Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil in 2008.

"Fernando is one of just three world champions still driving in F1, so it is fantastic - and unique - that such race hero is part of the programme in our anniversary year," organiser Herman Vaanholt said.

In April, Bavaria City Racing signed a deal to keep the event in Rotterdam for a further three years.
