Former F1 champion Alain Prost says he is honoured to have been linked with a role at Renault's F1 team following the departure of Flavio Briatore from his position as team principal.

Briatore, as well as Pat Symonds, was forced to stand down from his role due to the fall-out from the race fixing scandal which has hit the sport, with Renault going before the FIA today to discover its fate – which could be anything from a hefty fine to a ban from the sport.

Prost is one of a number of names to have been linked with replacing Briatore in his position should Renault continue in the sport, and told the Italian newspaper La Stampa that it would be an 'honour' to take the role although he was quick to point out that current talk was 'rumours' and that 'no-one from Renault has been in contact'.

ART team boss Frederic Vasseur has also been linked with the position in the Spanish press, while former F1 team bosses David Richards and Craig Pollock, as well as Citroen WRC chief Olivier Quesnel, are rumoured to be in contention.
