Fisichella: I could keep racing in F1

Giancarlo Fisichella admits he would like to remain in an F1 race seat for the 2010 season
Giancarlo Fisichella has refused to rule out the possibility of extended his racing career in F1, despite inking a deal to become Ferrari's official test driver for the 2010 season.

The Italian joined Ferrari following the Belgian Grand Prix to fill the second seat alongside Kimi Raikkonen following a series of poor displays from Luca Badoer after he was given the chance to substitute for the injured Felipe Massa.

Fisichella's deal saw him take the second seat at the Scuderia for the remainder of the season before taking up a testing role in 2010, although the move hasn't gone to plan as he has struggled to get to grips with the F60 and has so far failed to pick up any points since making the switch from Force India.

The Italian again struggled in Abu Dhabi as he qualified at the back of the field but he insisted that he could still return in a race seat again next season and refused to rule out the possibility of going back to Force India again if the chance arose.

“I am not thinking of racing with a new team,” he was quoted by Reuters. “But if there is a good possibility to race with a team that has experience from the past then I prefer that.

“To start from the beginning, like Force India last year, would be difficult. It could be Force India but there are a lot of teams without drivers so far.”

Should a deal not be forthcoming for 2010, then Abu Dhabi would mark the end of Fisichella's F1 career but he insisted he had no regrets about making the move to Ferrari – even if it meant his time in the sport is likely to end with something of a whimper.

“I'm still happy with that choice because I got a fantastic result for Force India at Spa and achieved my dream of racing for Ferrari,” he said. “It's going to be the last race of the season and maybe the last race of my career. Obviously I'm disappointed because I haven't done a lot for Ferrari, which was my target, but it's not an easy situation as the car isn't easy to drive and it's not quick enough.

“I did my best, but it wasn't easy to adapt my style of driving to this car.”
