'On the limit' Webber snares second

Mark Webber ends his F1 campaign with another podium at Abu Dhabi's new Yas Marina circuit
Mark Webber admitted his battle with Jenson Button for second place in Abu Dhabi had been 'on the limit' after the Australian helped Red Bull to end the season with a 1-2 finish.

Webber survived contact with Rubens Barrichello at the first corner to run in third place in the early stages and found himself running in second place once the final round of pitstops had played out.

However, the Australian found himself under increasing pressure from Button behind as the laps counted down before having to hold off a concerted effort from the Briton on the final lap to secure his place on the second step of the podium.

“Towards the end of the race, Jenson was able to close the gap to me and I thought 'this is going to be tight'!” he said. “We knew we had a slight top-speed advantage, but not much and I had to make sure I was accurate with my braking points. We had a good clean fight on the limit and the battle was a credit to how Jenson's driven all year.

“I want to congratulate the team on what they have achieved and thank them for their patience with me at the start of the year when I was coming back from my accident. It's been very enjoyable driving alongside Sebastian this year, Renault has given us a fantastic engine and overall Red Bull can be incredibly proud of what they have done. It's been my best season to date; we've had 16 podiums together; it's very good.”
