Night race confirmed

The FIA, Formula 1's governing body, has confirmed the calendar for the 2008 season, which will contain a floodlit night Grand Prix for the first time.

Although the latest calendar contains no changes to the provisional schedule released last month, it does finalise three events that had still to be officially confirmed as taking place, with the Canadian GP in Montreal being provisional and the races in Valencia and Singapore being subject to circuit approval.

It has now however been confirmed that the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will play host to the Canadian event in June, while Valencia in August and Singapore in September can both look forward to hosting F1 for the first time – with the new calendar officially confirming Singapore as a night race.

Italian-based Valerio Maioli SpA has already signed a letter on intered with Singapore GP Pte Ltd to design and construct the necessary lighting system to illuminate the event.

The full 2008 calendar is as follows:

I have one of those countdown to the year 2000 clocks set for Mar 16th 2008 - personally, with the on and off track drama between the drivers, plus a number of open seats/contracts expiring I can't wait for Mar 16th 2008!

F1, it's a love-to-hate type of thing for me, I'll complain all season, but when it ends I complain I've got to wait until next season!

Let's hope there's some off season surprises to keep us going until then...
