Ferrari sets launch date for new car

Ferrari has revealed that it will unveil its 2008 car early next month, with the launch set for January 6.

According to reports by Italian newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo has said that the ceremony will take place at Fiorano, the Scuderia's private test facility.

The F2008, as it will probably be designated, will then get its first proper test a week later at Jerez in Spain, with running expected to start on Monday January 14.

"The objective, naturally, is to win again, even if the competition will be extraordinarily strong," Montezemolo told the 'paper when asked about next season.

"McLaren has young drivers, Renault has taken on [Fernando] Alonso, BMW is the team that made the most progress last year and in Ross Brawn, Honda has made the correct choice.

"[Felipe] Massa has been confirmed [with us] thanks to his excellent performances since 2006, surprising even [Michael] Schumacher.

"As for [Kimi] Raikkonen, he's won [the world championship] and that is enough. I like him because he doesn't complain or speak much, but if he still wins he can carry on that."

For the record, Ferrari is currently set to be the first team to unveil its new car, with Toyota to follow on January 10, then BMW Sauber on January 14 and Renault on January 31. McLaren-Mercedes and the rest have yet to confirm the dates to launch their new machines.
