Formula Master secures F1 slot

Organisers of the Formula Master single-seater series have revealed that it will take a slot on the Formula One support card for two events during 2009.

The series, the brainchild of N.Technology team boss Mauro Sipsz, has run alongside the World Touring Car Championship during its first two years and while the majority of events next year will again run with the WTCC, two of the eight races will instead run with F1.

The deal will see the series compete with F1 at the Turkish Grand Prix in August and the Belgian Grand Prix in September, while Brands Hatch, Monza and Pau are amongst the venues where Formula Master will run with the WTCC.

Formula Master already has links with F1, with the winner of the 2009 title receiving a test with the Honda team.

"Our strategy with Formula Master has always been to position the Series as a key feeder to Formula 1," series boss Sipsz said. "With the inclusion of the Belgium Grand Prix, based at a respected track regarded as a true drivers' circuit, and the Turkish GP, we are achieving our objectives.

"The Honda Racing Formula 1 team's continued support with confirmation of a test for the 2009 winner cements the F1 association even further. We have worked hard to ensure that the stars of tomorrow race with state-of-the-art technology and a strong promotional platform on Europe's most prestigious circuits, such as this weekend's races in Monza: a well-known Formula 1 track."

The 2007 Formula Master champion Jérôme D'Ambrosio has raced in the F1 paddock throughout the season after taking up a role in GP2.
