So Lewis Hamilton may be the newly-crowned Formula 1 World Champion, Felipe Massa may have won the most races and Kimi Raikkonen may have set comfortably the highest number of fastest laps – but who was out-and-out the quickest qualifier of 2008?
In an effort to find out, we have averaged the qualifying positions of every F1 driver season-long to come up with a 'supergrid' of where they would line up over the year as a whole.
The closest-matched team-mates turned out to be Super Aguri's Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson - although they only did the first four races - followed by Honda duo Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, and perhaps more unexpectedly McLaren-Mercedes pairing Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen.
Those furthest apart, meanwhile, were former double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso and rookie Nelsinho Piquet at Renault, Mark Webber and the recently-retired David Coulthard at Red Bull Racing and, surprisingly, Toyota's Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock.
