I would have to disagree with your "agricultural" statement. US racing series have always tried to control costs (something that F1 is finally learning to do) and keep racing competitive. Generally in F1, the driver that wins the championship is entirely dependent on the best car and the team that spends the most money (put Force India drivers in McLaren's last year the outcome would be ?).

The United States have always been a leader in all aspects of technology. Whether it is the computer you are browsing with, the iPod you listen to music with, NASA space technology, etc... They certainly have the engineering prowess and technology to compete in any field desired, including F1.

One of the main reasons for so many teams being based in England is the readily available racing technology - the teams farm out work to specialist design and manufacturing companies. If this is not readily available in Spain being in close proximity to a test track will not be much of an advantage.I believe that testing is limited so if they think they can just shove the thing out on the track anytime they like they are mistaken.

I know a fair few people in the motorsports engineering supply chain, and the general consensus is that US racing is enthusiastic, but a bit, well, agricultural. Most of the high-tech end is imported from Europe.

Maybe, these guys are taking heart from the new regulations. However it goes, I'd be happy to see them there, but I think they'll struggle.

i know windsor from his days at autocar magazine, and he was always a dab hand at spin. this went on in his williams days, so i would be very cautious of his "plans" and comments. guess i'll only believe him when he produces a competitive car on the grid, but i'm not beting on that!

Just be happy if they put any cars on the grid. Never mind where the technology came from. If you like we can have the side of the car painted with a sign that says "they do it better in europe". That should make you feel superior. Of co**** they would not be competative right out of the box and it will take time. He is not saying we are coming to whip Ferrari. That's McL job. And you know how that tasted last year.

and secondly.. being based in UK has had NO effect on keeping racing there or being sucessful. So the appeal to be based there is NIL.

Read my post again Rob - al it said is it makes it easier to build cars and engines if you are based in England - there is a large hi-tech industrial area which is dependent on racing for its existence. The skills exist to manufacture or design parts quickly.I am sure the same facilities dont exist in Spain
There are probably more race tracks and racing in the UK per head of population than any other country in the world.Even American drag bikes use British made engines!

I'll pass that info on to Windsor. I'm sure he has not thought to remember that the center of the universe is in the UK. Let's wait and see instead of being a doomsayer. If they hit the grid next year I would not care if the car was built in Siberia.

I hope this is not another MotoCzysz project - by the time it ran the formula for which it was built no longer existed!
