No point in Ferrari getting worried about the cars being reliable then.. just as long as one of their drivers can win one more race than anyone else then the title is theirs....

dumb idea...

Absolutely appalling news in my view. So any form of consistency does not come into it then? The 12-9-7-5.... points system was the best call. I have been immensely excited for this season, but this news has just extinguished that completely.

A BIG if I know but if driver A wins the first 9 Grands Prix and driver B comes second every time, even if driver B wins the next 8 races driver A needn't turn up and he wins the title ???? Total cr*p

A ridiculous decision. The FIA needs to clarify whether this means that a driver with 2 wins, and say 85 points would lose to a driver with 4 wins and 70 points. Its a completely stupid decision, and indicative of the FIA's approach to F1. How can the system be fair. If you have more points you should win, its a simple as that!!!

How is this fair. McL and Ferrari have won two thirds of all the grand prix for the last many many years.

keech - yes, your confusion is correct, driver with 4 wins takes title over driver with 2, regardless of points. Listen up FIA, you are complete morons, devoid of any common scense. Reverse your disision now, and apologise for your complete lack of judgement.

I really hope that this is not because massa had more wins than Hamilton, but lost the title. I really think there out to be an investigation into just how much FIA and un-named others are biased towards Ferrari. I know that may upset some of you, but come on, you really have to admit that it seems very odd

"Had such a format been in place in 2008, it would have meant that Ferrari ace Felipe Massa rather than McLaren-Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton lifted the laurels..."

I'm seeing this, or similar, everywhere. And it's *rubbish*. Responsible, instead of sensationalist, journalism needs to quantify this further. If the system was in place last year Hamilton and McLaren would have approached each race, and the season, differently. And do you think they would have given up so easily on the whole Belgium debacle?

And, to the main point of the article, I have to agree with others here: this is stupid decision, basic on a half-hearted attempt to listen, but not really hear, what the fans want.

So this time when the MaFIA twist the rules like Spa 2008 against Hamilton (quoted a rule that wasn't yet in place!!!!), there is a way now to gaurantee that Ferrari will lift the drivers WDC when stewards penalise Hamilton, or even Fernando.

If I wasn't a supporter of F1 as a sport, I would say this is amazing.

In the fairness of 'sport' the new rules are corrupt and designed to help the MaFIA support Ferrari yet again.

A dark day for F1 - thanks to the senile old bat 'Bernie' and his sexual deviant friend 'Max'.
