Decrepit and out-of-touch...
What's the point comparing the F1 season to a 100m sprint? Even if he or the FIA push through their "winner takes all" system, do any fans, old-school or new, actually want to see medals?
Even though some of the new trophies (like the one presented to Massa at Valencia last year) are not exactly "beautiful", in this most virile of sports, would people prefer to see the winners bowing to receive a delicate, shiny gold medal, or see them hefting a great big trophy above their heads in triumph?
Athletics fans and F1 fans are two very different animals - just because it works in one doesn't mean it will in the other.
Surely the fans' voices must count for something??

incredible arrogance! it is hard to post anything complimentary about this man. it would be interesting to hear from prodrive, etc. re the "medals", his dictatorial statement wont go down well with fota who have already dismissed the idea. if they stand firm and refuse to "enter" with these new rules in place, then f1, as we know it is finished. lets hope that they stand firm and spoil his party!

The teams don't want the medal plan, the drivers don't, and most of all the fans don't. So why doesn't he just pack it in and push for a revised point system like everyone wants?! Its not just his sport.

Ecclestone is mad - last year he wanted Massa to win (look at FIAt's judgment - Spa, Fuji...), and while he scored 1 more win than Hamilton, the letter won the title. So he tries to compensate Ferrari with this stupid ideas. FIA should do something or all kind of FIA (or FIAt????) series will be in trouble - WRC : only two factory involved, terrible event rotation, WTCC : strange and constantly changing rules, F1 : no points - so what the hell the midfield will race for? For nothing - because they won't be able to get any medals. At least the motorsport fans have WSBK with a sensible government - the Flamini's.

I think the teams should boycott races and show Bernie who's boss. Afterall without the teams, he doesnt have a sport to run, and maybe it would put him off coming up with stupid ideas every season!!!!

He already said if you are going to point a gun at his head you better have bullets. I can only imagine the fine for not showing up for a race. He would love that as it would fill his coffers. Now pulling a bunch of cars off the track during the race, for any reason the teams come up with sounds better.

If a pilot will be champion before the last race, there will be another focus of entertained certainly. The races are as they are. Is it Nascar finishing better?

rich ard I am afraid I have to disagree with you this time and with many other posters for that matter. I don't argue on your statement "incredible arrogance" as I feel anyone can express what he feels of Bernie but I will on the issue of the driver winning most races: I was told since I was a toddler to win you have to finish first, second and beyond do not count. I still live with that motto and I believe in "a forced upon us politically correct world" we have to entertain what today has become a Standard of Mediocrity. By the way trophies aren't a form of recognition so what is wrong with medals, another form of recognition. I think the rules were introduced late but so what..
