It's about bloody time someone stood up to the FIA.

This whole thing has been ridiculous. Issues should not be allowed to drag on this long. McLaren/Hamilton lied, although the points were rightly theres. So as punishment they had their points stripped. That should be the end of it. People have lied in F1 time and time again and I don't remember ever being dragged out like this.

Any penalties should have to be declared by the end of the racing day by the stewards at the track. All this crap of issues dagging on for weeks and weeks does more damage to the sport that the lie itself. It would have been forgotten by now if the issue was settled at the race.

Pathetic

Better to watch motogp instead, don't remember hearing of any sanctions, fines, lost of points, etc meted out over the decade.... Looks like FIA has become the most popular/in the limelight team in motorsport. Congratulations FIA! You deserve the world championship more than anyone else.

Just to add further pressure, don't McLaren make all the ECU's for the F1 teams?

When all the supposed conspiring took place the stewards had already penalized Trulli. The penalty was one that could not be appealed. To get off the hook after they realized they(stewards) made a mistake they took the word of rumors of Mcl and lewis telling each other to let truli through. They should of NEVER penalized Trulli before they were sure of any infraction. It could have been done later in the day if necessary. stewards blew it and mcl and lewis got them of the hook by lying. In fear of being penalized. How ironic.

Mark asked: "On this issue, is it worse to lie to gain a position or is it worse to lie to have a competitor penalized?"

My thoughts on this was that it was neither of those. I think the Mclaren mentality was that they are so nervous about being penalised by the FIA for any excuse that they decided to just deny everything. I expect that on the spur of the moment Ryan's thinking was "if we say we let Trulli through then they'll use that as an excuse to exclude us for breaking SC rules."

it's all very well saying that Merc should be allowed to walk, but it will affect 3 teams on the grid not just McLaren

Someone said that they should be put on a two year probation. What if they are still on probation from spygate? We don't know if they are and that may be the real decider this time.

I still think that the spygate penalty was so heavy because the FIA thought that they had been lied to during the first hearing that July. Renault came clean about the data that they possesed so they got off lightly. The FIA does not like being lied to.

On this issue, is it worse to lie to gain a position or is it worse to lie to have a comptitor penalized? A lie is a lie but lying to punish an innocent is pretty low.
