I must be missing something here...
the debenture scheme has been withdrawn because the bank underwriting it has pulled out. His partner has pulled out, the bank financing the development has pulled out so where is the money coming from to finance this???

Sadly I think we can wave goodbye to the British GP. BE will be glad because he'll have a spare slot to fit in another Persian Gulf race on a boring Tilke circuit in front of two men and a camel!

F1 » Donington given extra time to save British GP

DVLL chief executive Simon Gillett insists his objective is 'to save the British GP, not jeopardise it' after he is granted an extra month to sign agreements crucial to the race's future.

Does anyone believe what Pinocchio Gillet says? There is a clue in his statement "we are 110 per cent committed". You cannot have more than 100 per cent. :-o

I do feel sorry for Gillett sometimes as he's clearly been dropped in it big time, investors running away, banks running away, contractors running away, MSA refusing a circuit licence, Wheatcrofts suing him, planning in the balance, it's all so precarious, a veritable house of cards.

It would be a shame if Donnington doesn't host the British GP, more so it would be a shame that Britain wouldn't be able to boast of being a nation with two circuits up to F1 standards.
Let's hope Gillet can prove the 'nation of doubters' wrong. (Yes, I'm a Brit too). If he can't, then bring on Silverstone...

I hope he succeeds but in the interview on BBC last night he looked bloody nervous....

Donington is sadly doomed, Gillett has been taken in by the evil dwarf Bernie, he was forced into making the announcement on the eve of last year's British GP. Agreeing to terms and deadlines that he couldn't meet and not anticipating the global downturn. We'll be lucky if we see a BTCC and BSB event there this year let alone a MotoGP in the Summer and an F1 GP there next year. What a mess.

I don't think Silverstone or Donington will be holding the GP. This is all gameplay by Bernie and poor Gillet is a pawn. Maybe all us Crash.net users should chip in, raise some cash, buy the rights and get it held somewhere else! Oulton Park anyone?

We could hold it at Knockhill, I've been round there in a single seater, an Aprilia RSV and a legend thingy (which are great fun btw)...its perfect for F1 cars :)

Gilletts big problem isn't the timing of the S106 agreement, it's cash. Once the S106 is tied down, he'll have to start stumping up whatevers been agreed (seven figure sum easily) for road improvements and the like. So the S106 will actually be more of a problem than a solution when it is finalised.

Taz, I am LOVIN your idea for Knockhill. I think it is an Ferrari F1 car that has the lap record, mind you personally I would rather see the MotoGP bikes there.
