We all know that this will NEVER happen. Teams that threaten to leave F1 will be pacified in one way or another. F1 will still be F1 next year, and that will include Ferrari, Toyota, Red Bull, et al.

Lets all sit back & watch Max & Bernie self-destruct. This morning, Max & Bernie woke up & realized that they were not gods after all.

No Rich ard I do not, remember that the FIA represents all aspects of 'the automobile', not just F1 (and including the hundreds of thousands of people in the industry), and as an organisation it is making a stand that says 'we cannot condone/encourage this profligate spending when so many people's livelihoods are on the line'. BLOODY GOOD FOR THEM is what I say, they are considering the wider picture and if F1 suffers a bit, tough titty. I live in an 'auto industry' town so know how much its hurting.

In fact I will go further and say that if F1 in its current guise dies, and the net effect is that 10,000 people worldwide keep their livelihoods, I'll vote for that option. There's plenty of 'affordable' motorsport to get excited by, even a new 'cosworth era' formula 1. We need to wake up to the wider picture.

Pier, FIA may represent the whole of motor sports, but this cap isn't about all motor sports, its about F1, so who else the FIA represents is irrelevant. They aren't doing this to help other forms of motor racing.

It also isn't true to say the cap is protecting people's jobs. Teams like Ferrari and Toyota make long term commitments to the sport. Cutting back down to the budget cap means cutting down on staff.

When did the devil (FIA) become an angel? Looking at wider picture and saving people's jobs ? Are you kidding ?

Alan D, you have 'motorsport only' blinkers on. I am talking the motoring industry generally. Forget Ferrari for a mo, if Toyota lopped 60m off their budget the net effect COULD be the saving of thousands of jobs, IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY not just motorsport, in fact it would be about 1,000 jobs using the models I use at work.

All this should be welcomed, for once a brakeaway group should start to form, if only they could stick together. Kick Max and Berni into touch and get back to how F1 used to be.

I'm just wondering where all the informed posters are? You know, the ones who for some reason for the whole of last season, the season before, and the first part of this season thought that Ferrari and the FIA had some sort of special relationship, prompting sloads of posts about FIA standing for Ferrari Is Ace etc etc etc.

Pier, where Toyota etc spend their money is their business. It is not the place of the FIA to tell them they are spending too much on motorsport and that they should be creating different sorts of jobs instead. By your logic, you should be campaigning for the abolition of all motorsport because every penny spent on it could be spent on creating jobs elsewhere. In fact, why not ban all sport everywhere. All that money spent on footballers and football stadiums could be better spent on building paint factories so that people can have jobs and paint the world a monotone grey.
