We all know that this will NEVER happen. Teams that threaten to leave F1 will be pacified in one way or another. F1 will still be F1 next year, and that will include Ferrari, Toyota, Red Bull, et al.

If you have a high-speed, rolling-road wind tunnel behind your motorcar racing shop, it would be relative easy for the FIA to monitor its use. But supposed you employ a high-tech company's wind tunnel in a foreign high-tech country which has little or no F1 involvement. The F1 troika would need a lot of monitors to monitor every modern wind tunnel in the world.

In the world of advanced flying machine development, an aerodynamic model is typically generated based on subscale wind tunnel data. The model is then validated by flight testing. So, if the low-life F1 cheater has been smart enough to develop a validated model, a subscale wind tunnel test can be used to evaluate changes.

Yank is spot on re accounting costs and the sheer complexity of accounting and the time it takes to track down all the money. Its not a case of just looking at a bank statement. And what will the FIA do if the accounts are disputed by another team? We'd get something like this...

19th June 2013: Following the outcome of the accountants enquiry, the FIA announces that the results of the 2010 World Driver's Championship now reads as follows...

When you add the number of worldwide subscale wind tunnels to the number of full-scale wind tunnels, the monitoring problem get much larger. (Note to potential cheaters: Not all problems are detectable in subscale wind tunnels. The number of suprises gets bigger as the scale gets smaller.)

Next: Conclusions, Biases, and Miscellaneous Ramblings.

So what does this expanded mind fart mean? Basically, with a cost cap, you can't get there from here. The cost of enforcing a budget cap will be onerous and the concept in unenforceable. If F1 had competent leadership as opposed to spanker, greedy, and the Federation Indernational des Azholes, we would not be at this impasse. I don't know what the future holds for F1, but the cost cap would be disastrous and it is causing problems now.

Amazing how public this spat seems to be. With so much money at stake, I'd expect the deals to be worked out in smoke-filled rooms, and the press to be used as a tool to manage public perception.

Here it seems the two sides just want to fight.
That says there is no love between the teams and the commercial rights holder, little common ground. With so many people who love to watch this sport, both sides stand to make so much money, if they can compromise. Yet they are fighting each other.

The fans also seem to have no respect for the commercial rights holder. This cannot go on.

In any sporting league I am familiar with, the dominant commercial interests are the teams - they have the most invested, the most at risk, and they make the most money. The teams work together on the business aspects, to insure ongoing sporting competition and thus continuing opportunity for mutual profit.

In F1, the bureaucrats have a destablizing commercial interest. They make so much money, yet have little capital invested. They are a tax, a parasite on the system. In other sporting leagues, the league bureaucracy is there solely to facilitate fair competition and thus profit for the teams. In F1, the league parasite has become bigger than the teams. Strange and untenable.

Gee , let me think, who needs who worse? Can Ferrari continue to sell the most sought after cars in the world without Shorty (Bernie) and the Pervert (Max) helping their popularity? After all, isn't Ferrari popular only because of F1? If Ferrari goes 25 million fans go and along with them Bernie's cash cow. Even Shorty is smarter then that.

Promises promises, come on ferrari just leave. You are only ever as good as your last race. I for one wont miss your rule bending nonsense and toys out of pram approach to racing. What is it with italian manufacturers and changing the rules? With Ducati doing the same in SBK they are a becoming joke to many race fans.
