We all know that this will NEVER happen. Teams that threaten to leave F1 will be pacified in one way or another. F1 will still be F1 next year, and that will include Ferrari, Toyota, Red Bull, et al.

I would love to see how the sponsors of actual F1 & tracks etc. will react...Money brings prestige, prestige brings big names and babes...if they cap at 40£mln,that would mean nearly the same thing as paying a transfer of a Ronaldo or other big football name. See how low the F1 would go? 1 guy gets around 20mln£, but a whole team can't spend more then 40 on one of the most prestigious world races. Do you think people would be willing to pay high priced tickets to see such a race? maybe if they drop the ticket prices also...don't know how this is going to work out.

But...i would looove to see a 24hrs Le Mans race with prototypes of Ferrari, McLaren, BMW, Toyota, Audi...How fun would that be?

Re the posts on accounting which seems to have a lot of logic, As I know very little about accounting I try
to read what I can find about the subject, here is some reporting comments I came across,
The FIA cannot demand that all F1 teams adhere to a budget cap as it cannot legally assume the rights to inspect their finances, That's why it has adopted the two tier solution offering teams that voluntary chose
budget a massive performance advantages.

I for one am a ferrari fan, but if they want to go let them go.
F1 has for the last few years been ruined by politics mainly McLaren & Ferrari.
The sport would not end, as I know of at least nine teams who would like to enter under the new rules bring back a cossie engine and cap the budget for all teams and lets go racing.

40 miilion pounds, that sounds a lot, I am not a football fan, but how much of some of the top teams in England could you buy for that, and pay their wages, not a lot in some cases.
I like F1 and have done for 40 years, and the cars this year look like something your children would make out of Lego on a bad day. Th ewhole sport is going down hill rapidly.
I would rather see some of these teams leave and go out on their own away from Max and Bernie, and sort their selves out. Reduce the number of laps , design the cars to either do a complete race on one tank or only two tankfuls, scrap the tyre rules and let the drivers race the cars, the races are decided on tactics now ,not the drivers

Okay, lets have the list of cars for the SUPER F1 championship, Ferrari, Toyota, Red-Bull ( both teams ) and BMW, they have all said they are not happy, I am sure true racing fans would be happy to see these teams racing , as there are plenty cicuits around the world who I bet would be happy to host a racing championship with these cars on the grids. And to make up the numbers the teams should enter a third car for theri test drivers or other drivers on a race to race basis, Jacques Villneuve was looking for a drive, an dI am sure that there would be plenty other drivers looking too, what about Seb Loeb in an F1 car.
Go on guys quit the mickey-mouse grid and get out and start real racing.

I didn't read all the posts but I saw some pretty obvious patterns evolving... here is my pointless 2 cents.

1)Anyone that thinks that Ferrari is unimportant to F1 is an idiot!

2)Ferrari (and for that matter RBR, BMW etc) are NOT complaining about the idea of the budget cap! They are concerned about the fact that there could be 2 levels of championship caused by the current rule ideas.

most, if not a lot of the F1 fans are ferrari fans. But if ferrari quit and the fans dissapear...GOOD!!

Not because of any bitterness, but it just means they were NEVER fans of F1. just the ferrari brand. Any FANS of F1 will still be there in the stands or in front of the tv at 4am whatever.

But they wont leave anyway. A middle path will be found and everything will be normal again.

On a seperate note...will the low cost era also mean low cost Tickets???

Well, if any of you for one second thinks Ferrari needs F1 to sell cars, think again. Ferrari is a mythological name in automobile lore and will continue to sell their vehicles without any problem. Porsche is not in F1 and yet sell like hotcakes. Lamborghini has long been out of F1 (and never amounted to anything while it was still there, lets be honest) and can't make enough cars to meet the demand.

Besides, the two biggest markets for Ferrari are North America, where they don't give a tos.s about F1, and Middle East where, again, they don't give a rats bottom about F1.

As far as Ferrari goes it would be a shame to see them go from a historical point of view, but as far as the other quit threats from the manufacturers I am not too worried, everyone wants to bring back the glory days of the late 80's how many big manufacturers were there then? Ferrari and Lotus were the only half decent cars... Private teams made up the rest, the sport continues to cycle from private teams to manufacturers it always has. Let the manufacturers go and make the sport easier for small teams to get back in and we may return to the wonderful full grids and pre-qualifying. Just like before Bernie killed Group C to have the manufacturers back in F1... they were the days!
