F1 » Alonso: F1 would be 'finished' under budget cap

Double world champion Fernando Alonso has warned the FIA that it is doing 'incalculable' damage to F1 in pressing on with a budget cap that might cause the sport as it is to 'disappear'.

F1 will never die while it is the fastest motor sport regardless of the budget cap.

Australian V8 supercar racing got better and more popular as cost cuts were made - turned if from boring predictable racing to one of the most successful and exciting motor sport series in the world

It actually doesn't matter what FA or anyone else says because MM ain't listening.

Out of twenty guys on the grid only four have won Monaco, three of them could be without an F1 team next year, Toyota, Renault and Ferrari then say to there guys, listen you guys need to stay sharp because you have an oppertunity to add Le Mans and Indy to your CVs.
That alone would make Max and Bernie's F1 very second division.

Yes, damn MM for trying to lower the cost of F1.

blzbub - Those teams were threatening to quit if the two tear formula was introduced. It will not be. If MM doesn't cut the costs in the series the manufactures will just do a Honda and leave anyway, at least under the cap new teams can enter. I'd rather have a full grid with no Ferrari or Alonso than 16 cars with them.

I can understand people slamming Mosely for the orgy, but it seems people are just disagreeing with him even when he's talking sense. Grow up.

Andy, I never criticised MM for his orgy. I figure what he does in his private life is his business, and I loathe newspapers which think invasions of privacy are acceptable if it makes them money. They justify it saying it is in the public interest, but it isn't.

However, even if MM was a saint who walked on water I'd still be criticising him for plucking a figure out of the air, trying to force it on the teams without proper consultation, and spinning this propaganda that he is the one trying to save F1.

Regardless of his orgy, I'd also still be criticising him for the way he's given all the rights to F1 to Bernie and allowed funds to drain out of the sport.

During todays free practice we heard Ian Phillips (Force India) talk about teams like Renault, Toyota, BMW and yes Ferrari being unwilling to let the FIA go through there private finances, that is the problem, its not about a two-tier system its about the FIA trying to be the taxman.
If any team in F1 right now doesnt run there team/business properly they will be up against it.
Lets also remember that McLaren are a relatively big team and I'd be suprised if they just agreed to turn there books over to the FIA.

Blzbub, you are right. I certainly wouldn't let someone go through my books unless it had a legal mandate to do so, which the FIA doesn't. The reason behind the two-tier system is that Mosely knows he cannot force though a poliecable budget cap so instead he gives bonuses to teams which meekly comply to the extent that if you don't agree to waive your legal rights then you might as well not bother racing because your cars will be technically inferior no matter what you spend.

If tech-savvy accountants are inspecting Ferrari's books then they'll learn a lot about what its plans are. That info could be worth millions to Ferrari's competitors, and not just in F1.

I can understand Alonso and co for making statements like this. After all if their teams pull out they will be out of a job and will need to go back to finding sponsership money to be able to race.
In a bizzare way I almost hope they do as we could find some undiscovered talent out there who were kept off the grid by the "old guard" who are still just good enough not to lose their seat.
E.g. We all knew Hamilton was good but who thought he would be that good?
I don't think F1 would be finished as long as the cars are on the cutting edge and the racing close.

Fernando's actions 2 years ago nearly hit the final nail into the coffin that is F1. And of course with the ferrari rumours about alonso he's bound to take this oppinion as it is his future. Cant help but think he is talking about himself here not F1.
