As usual, Max is making out that he's the one being reasonable and trying to find a compromise.

Look Max, if F1 is unsustainable at current spending levels then the market will adjust itself. If Ferrari or Mclaren can't get the sponsorship then they won't spend the money. If they get the sponsorship, what do you want them to do with it, if not spend it on F1? And if you think its possible to run a perfectly good team on 45 million, then why does it bother you that some teams are wasting their money by spending twice that? If you didn't change the rules so often, teams wouldn't need to spend so much money trying to catch up with each other.

F1 » Mosley 'willing to compromise' as €100m cap looms

A final resolution to the contentious F1 budget cap stand-off is now believed to be near, as both FIA President Max Mosley and the teams prepare to compromise on an expected €100m limit.

This sounds a lot better, although aren't Ferrari spending 200m euros this season, therefore still having to cut it by half for next season. Also where is this going to leave the new teams (namely Campos)? And will all the teams beable to go from 100m to 45m euros in 1 season?

Oh, and what about the two-tier championship, have I missed something or is that still going ahead, or is it everyone under the cap now? :?

I bet you £40 million this is exactly what Max intended all along. He is a shrewd negotiator and an excellent figurehead for the sport.

seems like a reasonable soloutuion, i didnt think wages were in cluded anyway. they may aswell exclude all wages right down to the cleaner. hope the other rules stay, such as flexible wings ect as im rather excited to see things like in racing. that should surely help overtaking

@suckfizzle, re the shrewd negotiator bit you are spot on.

@Hannah they don't HAVE to spend e100m, the cap isn't a minimum. If Campos or whoever have e60m to spend thats what they'll spend (having just written that I know it's a laughable idea, as 90% of motor racing teams spend beyond their means)

piercarlo. some of these "capped" teams, may now elect NOT to enter, but if they do, next year would be only a start up year, with little chance of success, but they will then be on a more solid footing for the following year. there is talk that customer cars would also be allowed, so next year, they may be using this years cast-offs. i am still worried about the two tier situation. i also think that the 100m may not be the final figure.glad to see that mosley is now admitting that ferrari is very important to f1.thats not what he said last week! and also all his rhetoric that the limit would NOT be raised. it looks as if he has his come-uppance. thank god!

I think new teams have low expectations of success anyway. On balance I would rather have 26 cars on the grid with 8 no-hopers than only 10 cars, or no F1 for that matter. (and so would www.f1rejects.com).

On a different subject, after extensive research I've decided the Brawn GP01 is the most boring-looking car to win a GP since sponsorship arrived - even the unsponsored Tyrrells in the 80's were a nice colour and had good team signwriting

Ferrari do not want a two-tier championship?
Hello, F1 is normally a three-tier championship front pack, back pack, & rear pack.

In my post earlier on this thread I wrote 'Also where is this going to leave the new teams (namely Campos)?'

I didn't write what I meant very clearly, I meant, will the new teams, only entering because of the cap, still enter knowing that there are other teams spending far more than them? Will they beable to create a car seriosly capable of being near the rest. If they don't think this is possible, will they enter?

@Hannah, IMO yes, unless it is a total dead loss, then if they are 'Racers' ie in it because 'that's what they do' then they will still enter. I offered yesterday in one of my anti-Flavio spleen-venting posts the example of Toleman, check that story out (sorry if you already know it)
