Wow, being from the US this reminds me of the CART/IRL split that just about killed open wheel racing here and that is not good. Williams plus 9-12 new F1 teams would make for a horrible racing series in my opinion.

F1 » Mosley tells 'unrealistic' FOTA: We make F1 rules

FIA President Max Mosley has vowed to stand firm in the face of FOTA's 'unrealistic' demands over the budget cap - suggesting they 'have been trying to make it difficult for the new teams'.

"annual budget of just £40 million"

that's not what the FIA said at all, the 40 million is not the full annual budget, it covers mostly development, so yet again I'll say it, why don't the FOTA teams actually put forward some numbers based on what the 40 mil is supposed to cover and tell us (the people who actually pay to watch), how much over and above they think they "need" to spend.

Fighting talk, no doubt as usual delivered in calm, measured tones. He is speaking from a position of strength, it is the FIA's championship, not FOTA's.

Piercarlo, not if the teams leave. Then there will be no championship. Well, there would, and I think that Williams would win it.:-)

But seriously, does the FIA charter say that it makes the rules or applies them?

I would really like to know.

FOTA's stance is contradictory. They state that they will not race if a cap is introduced, as they cannot adjust to spending 'as little' as £40m on F1. If they don't race they will be spending NOTHING on F1!

Calvin, my point was slightly different, that they own the sanctioning rights, regardless of the rules.
This isn't CART that FOTA are playing with, it's the world's biggest motoring organisation

From the FIA statutes

"The General Assembly of the FIA shall be the sole international body governing motor
sport, that is to say it shall hold the exclusive right to take all decisions concerning the
organization, direction and management of International Motor Sport"

so that makes them Judge, Jury and Executioner.....

what max ment to say was. we tell the jokes and we expect the teams to laugh weather they are funny or not... max can take the hard line if he wants but at this rate ferrari will be right they will have to name it gp3 as apart from williams all the current teams will walk . and it wouldent suprise me if max and bernie are behind the surposed entries of brabham and march to make it look as though if the current teams leave there will be teams with a historic name to replace them.. a tactic i dont think will work

Max should quit while he is a head. 40 mill is unworkable. max said this is there total. FOTA has asked for this not to include the driver costs and one staff member as well as a few other things. Max should have been fired when he was caught with all those hookers.
