F1 » Villeneuve: F1 stars don't hate each other enough

Jacques Villeneuve claims F1 would be more entertaining if drivers still 'wanted to win so badly that they hate each other', whilst suggesting Jenson Button is profiting from his investment.

He is a muppet, but he does have a point. It IS more interesting when the drivers hate one another.

I have to agree with him. There aren't too many personalities in F1. If you don't care about that, that's cool, but I sure wish there was more drama on and off the track. For me racing needs good guys and bad guys. These guys are about as interesting as milk toast.

thats because.. earlier teams revolved around drivers and drivers were the centre point and the cynosure, Whilst nowadays drivers revolve around teams and it is the teams who have the most say and been making the most noises.

He is correct for once. Heck Indy Car has more passion than F1 and that I never thought I would ever say. All the times I stayed up untill 2am or got up at 5am to watch F1 including pratice and quallys -the times and money spent going to see them at Indy, etc. Now it has become a political hash mash with drivers almost holding hands before and after the race. A kinder and gentler F1 we do not need.

He's dead right on this one - the real characters are sadly missed nowadays - remember Senna/Prost, Mansell/Piquet...although Mansell moaned way too much - I recall when he beat Piquet to pole (forget the GP) NP came up to him, grabbed his g00lies, and said - just checking - yes they are that big...
At least Button seems to be refreshingly open. PR and media "consultants" should be banned from the paddock...
