F1 has always been about racing teams and never about manufacturers so Renault's CEO is completely wrong. The only manufacturer who engineered an F1 car themselves is Toyota, and I do not consider Ferrari a manufacturer because they started off as racing team running Alfas prior to building road cars and subsequently being bought by FIAT. Renault is Toleman, Honda was Tyrrell, and that is about it. Renault split with their own team halfway through the eighties and came back after buying Bennetton after Bennetton took over Toleman. The spending power the manufacturers brought to the arena almost killed the Formula conceived by auto clubs and not by car manufacturers.

F1 » Red Bull commit as Renault approach F1 exit door?

Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso are understood to have become the latest teams to break ranks with FOTA - as Renault's F1 future, by contrast, looks more tenuous than ever.

It would be most unfortunate and bad for the future of the sport if Red Bull decides to unconditionally enter.

I hope Dietrich enjoyed the taste of Max's backside. He will be required to enjoy it forever.

I do not approve of the way the transformation is conducted, but the lower entry level is an absolute neccessity to let it survive. Racing teams are all about racing, before and after is just waiting! Manufacturers take the waiting too seriously. I am very much looking forward to the coming seasons in the new format!! Red Bull did well to choose racing since they are a racing team!

LMAO @ Richard

Just had a conversation with colleague that has 'access to FIA information'. He says ...
1) Red Bull, Torro Rosso, McLaren, Brawn to race F1
2) Ferrari, Renault, Toyota out of F1
3) BMW undecided but probably out
4) Mercedes to supply engines with Cosworth

If that's true Dale it wouldn't be very good.

Anyway, that Renault guy is taking the proverbial. We do this, we do that etc.....wrong. It's the fans and don't forget it. F1 would not miss Renault.

Hearsay and conjecture.

Hearsay and conjecture.

Man I'm tired of this bullpoo. Can't really say Renault's position is unreasonable, however, it sounds like Ghosn's beef is with CVC/Bernie, not the FIA.

That statement, however, is the only part of this story that's really worthy of comment, yet.

Kenneth R: what's the fans??? We don't make the cars or put up the funds. We just watch. We're basically meaningless, and just by looking at the sport, how it's run and how it earns its money, you will find confirmation of that!
