I guess he's looking for a job of president of FOTA as Toyota F1 will probably cease to exist before long (end of season)

F1 » Howett: Budget cap war not a power trip for FOTA

Toyota Motorsport President John Howett refutes suggestions that the budget cap stand-off is simply a smokescreen for a tenacious struggle for F1 control between FOTA and the FIA.

And who does this Howett think he is ? in charge of F1 New Boys with arguably the biggest budget - and no wins - partly responsible for the Fianancial "arms race" we find ourselves in, Toyota a team who found refuge in F1 when they were thrown out of World Rally Championship for cheating and then failed at Le Mans - and now he speaks as if he owns the place

What an idiot Howett is. Toyota are totally pony. He wants to spend money that the toyota motor company doesn't have!

The sooner FOTA get rid of this idiot the better!

I don't see what the preceding post are all about Howett is right to claim that. The F1 is controlled by FIA, but the power nonetheless is in the hands of FOTA. Who is racing Mosley? or poor Bernie?

Hartley, yes I am sick of all the politics too, but I'd be even more sick if FOTA let Mosely have hos way and turn F1 into a mickey mouse series. I think when Mosely set out on this path he had the idea he would create a legacy for himself as the man who single-handedly saved F1. Instead it looks increasingly like he'll be remembered as the man who single-handedly destroyed F1.

Youmug, whatever makes you think Howett wants to spend money that Toyota doesn't have? He has to work to a budget just like everyone else, but that budget is between him and his bosses. What Toyota spend their money on is non of Max's business. And what he doesn't want is race results contested months later after an accountants enquiry or teams gaining advantages because they employ the smartest accountants who find loophiles in the financial regas. Are you telling me that Howett is n't entitled to express that opinion? What is actually wrong with what he said?

Toyota is (and Honda was) proof that mere money doesn't get you wins in F1. I'm all for phasing in this rule, if the teams would be willing, but Max hasn't called yet . . . besides, I have no idea how this budget cap rule would be enforced, anyway. What if a hi-tech widget company wanted to develop a hi-tech widget for Team X in exchange for a sticker on the cars? Would the value be the cost of the widget or the cost of the sticker space? How would the FIA determine the outside manufacturer's cost of the widget? Would this lead to more outsourcing by the teams? Would CPA's be required to wear Nomex and helmets?

Randy - the CPAs would also need Nomex jockstraps or thongs as appropriate. The perv and his buds in the FIA don't have a clue concerning enforcement of a budget cap. This is just another of max Max's mindfarts like KERS.

Alan d, at last someone that has something sensible to say about the budget cap and why it won't work, this whole fight is about not giving the Fia access to the accounts of corporations like Toyota and Ferrari, its not about the size of the budget cap ! its about the fia getting a power that its not entitled to, No manafacturer would ever agree to such terms,

All those that would now disagree with this comment, stop and just think about it for a moment,
