moral of the story ...

history, international sanctioning bodies, etc all mean very little.

If the show is good, the fans will follow, the TV will follow, it will succeed.

What makes the show?
The competitors (in this case teams & drivers)
How you present it

Does FOTA have the ability to deliver those 2 things?
YES

Do they need FIA, Max, Bernie, CVC, the F1 name it order to deliver?
NO

F1 » Bernie: Teams need F1 more than F1 needs them

Bernie Ecclestone has warned the FOTA dissenters to think carefully before jumping ship and forming their own 'breakaway' series - arguing they wouldn't last a second without F1's support.

sorry Dale but have you read my posts on this thread and others?

I've said on numerous accasions THAT I WANT THE BREAKAWAY FOTA SERIES TO SUCCEED.

My only issue is that I think they need to control spending and that it will be more difficult than some on here think.

I don't understand how you can read a post and totally misinterpret the content?

Dale, you're right about the money FOTA might have- the teams do know what they can spend.

But the main point myself and 2pac were making was questioning the logistics of setting up a new championship.

I don't have a clue what it would cost, but I'm pretty sure it would be much more than what FOTA actually have as spare change. So they have to fundraise and that is going to be very difficult right now.

Then there's my point about the governing of the new sport.

Whether people think I'm right or wrong, I'm interested to hear their ideas on how the new championship could be governed? And how the teams could all agree on things?

I struggle to see it, without an independant body?

And scartledge is right about MotoGP!

the racing is better, the governing is better, the personalities are better, the pilots are more skillful.

Barcelona last week was one of best races in history, of any series, EVER! and it's week in, week out.

Doesn't make F1 bad though. Just makes MotoGP immense.

(one last time, before I take over this whole thread!)..

Dale, Dale, Dale...

Firstly I would like to say that I hope it gets resolved. But if there is a breakaway, I'm sure they'll have done it in the knowledge they can succedd. I'm not a pessimist.

But I would say a realist can see that it would be highly difficult, and so I'm saying that I don't think it will actually happen.

I personally think that both F1 and the teams need each other. F1 is nothing without the teams, and the teams are nothing without the guidance, the governance and the commercial might.

And what about the history? F1 is steeped in history actually going back before 1950. That makes it very valuable, no?

All the teams need is a set of rules that can overlap thru the closed season. This will reduce, eventually, the clean sheet of paper that we have at the moment. No-one wants a GP2- WSR scenario but a gradual progression with a minimal cost would help. Unless the'breakaway'series happens this could work. Tracks dont change that much. Data is always recorded for reference.Monaco will always have different requirements to Hockenheim! New floors, extra bolt on b00l0cks, its always been the same. Make an ultra slippery high speed car and take it to a street race! No downforce..like its a surprise. Get real and get away from justifying huge un-necessary wind tunnel work for what you already know.

In 2008 the IPL went live with a multi-billion dollar cricket tournament ...

It had no history
it was run by a national association
it was watched by billions on TV
attracted hundreds of thousands of live fans
it raked in HUGE profits
etc ...

WHY?
They had the product the public wanted to see
They packaged it properly
They sold it well

In 2008 the UCI tried to behave like the FIA & Max is now ...

so the Tour de France was run under the French Federation flag
All the top teams stood against the UCI
All the top riders competed for their teams
TV networks backed 'the show'
The world watched what they had pretty much always watched & enjoyed it
The race was, again, a huge success

Quite right Dale, but like the analogy I made with darts on another thread the funds necessary to put on a cricket tournament over 8 weeks or so in the same country is nothing compared to putting on a racing series such as F1.

Like I say I hope if the split goes ahead they have sufficient funds, get sufficient backing and are able to formulate a set of rules that doesn't result in self interest and ego's ripping the sport apart.
