@ mrdood

moral of the story ...

history, international sanctioning bodies, etc all mean very little.

If the show is good, the fans will follow, the TV will follow, it will succeed.

What makes the show?
The competitors (in this case teams & drivers)
How you present it

Does FOTA have the ability to deliver those 2 things?
YES

Do they need FIA, Max, Bernie, CVC, the F1 name it order to deliver?
NO

F1 » Bernie: Teams need F1 more than F1 needs them

Bernie Ecclestone has warned the FOTA dissenters to think carefully before jumping ship and forming their own 'breakaway' series - arguing they wouldn't last a second without F1's support.

FOM is the one who makes all the money. let them drop the price the teams have to pay for the honor of driving in formula 1, let them drop the price the circuits have to pay for the honor of hosting formula 1, etceteras. FOM is the organisation that makes bilions with very little costs. Giving their profit back to the teams would be a good start in cost saving and make the sport more viable.

The FIA has to form regulations that suit both the manufacturer teams with unlimited budgets and the small teams with very small budgets. The big teams have a huge monetary advantage that has grown in parallel with the success of F1 since Bernie and Max took over. Today the big manufacturers are spending money on F1 given to them through the government bail outs in their respective countries, this is unacceptable to the world public and must be cut back.
The FIA has a massively complex and serious job trying to sort these problems so as to keep F1 accepted as a world sporting activity in the face of the world financial collapse and the energy and environmental issues. In contrast the car manufacturers simply want to spend other peoples money to give them an unfair advantage and ignore the obvious problems.

The teams need F-1?....do I detect a bit of false bravado here? Bernie, you little gnome the TEAMS ARE F-1....ther is NO 'F-1' without the teams...get it thru your white-topped pointy skull.
This is a man that is starting to run scared...his 'tactics' echo Max's attempt to divide and conquer, and fear mongering. Bernie my lad.....YOU are a principle reason why the FOTA series CAN INDEED succeed ! How many track promoters have you P****D off with your greed over the past decade? How many that you now have 'in your pocket' do you think will ever re-sign with you unless you do 2 things a) DRAMATICLY lower your 'fees', and b) bring the 'BIG 8 ' teams to town....Good Luck SHYSTER !

How about the rebel teams setting up an alternative compatition and to satisfy their contractual obligations, sent a B team to the formula 1 who will not be competative. The teams will do what they promised but make a mokery of the sport and F1 will be gone in no time what so ever. The real racing will be done in the break away competion

I think there is something missing here, Bernie, Max and even FOTA cant see it.

If no-one watches your sh1t sport, then you have nothing so before FOTA/FIA or FOM you need US, the FANS!!!!

We should form our own break away series... called

FUKEM

Heay Willem, I like that idea.
What about if the teams just enter this years cars into next years F1 championship, with the necessary technical changes, and use promising up-and-coming drivers. Turn F1 into a "feeder series" for the real top level FOTA run championship.

Just imagine how much that would pee FOM and the FIA off.

Well he would say that, wouldn't he, with $2Billion revenue walking out the door. But a FOTA series faces some massive challenges - TV rights, circuit rights, logistics, sponsorship - how many GFC-affected sponsors will pull the plug when they see the reality of the split, etc etc. Even the name of the series - can they legally use F1 or Formula One? (Will FOTA have to change its name?)

...and of course i forgot to mention moving the British to Donnington! Now if there are real fans out there they will remember what a nightmare it used to be to get to Silverstone - well despite all the money the government (i.e. the public taxes) put into improving the roads at Silverstone we'll get all that crap back and worse because BRDC wouldn't kiss Bernie's little a#$e - Donnington - give me a break! It's a nice place but not for F1...
