@ mrdood

moral of the story ...

history, international sanctioning bodies, etc all mean very little.

If the show is good, the fans will follow, the TV will follow, it will succeed.

What makes the show?
The competitors (in this case teams & drivers)
How you present it

Does FOTA have the ability to deliver those 2 things?
YES

Do they need FIA, Max, Bernie, CVC, the F1 name it order to deliver?
NO

F1 » Bernie: Teams need F1 more than F1 needs them

Bernie Ecclestone has warned the FOTA dissenters to think carefully before jumping ship and forming their own 'breakaway' series - arguing they wouldn't last a second without F1's support.

@ Alan D

Proves my point I think...
If FOTA break with FIA and FOM then there is more money for everyone... the circuits could charge a 'reasonable' price for entry and STILL make/keep more money than they do now.

Gawd!! More proof that Greedy's internal connections to his mouth and his R's are reversed.

I hate rants. I really do but the devil made me do it.

If you were Bernie, why not have the "compromise" be that the factories buy his contract rights for a couple hundred million? It will cost them at least that much to organize a worldwide FOTA series. This way they have the infrastructure and the "Formula One" name.

So Bernie then waits a year or two for the factory-run series to devolve into egos and infighting and buys the rights back for a song. And if it doesn't collapse, he is still sitting on a beach enjoying life, lighting cigars with 100 pound notes.

"but I just think it's as simple to accomplish as many people believe."

Shirley you mean DON'T think it's that simple....

Seriously though you are right... BUT the teams are capable of doing just that... IF it happens I wouldn't expect a full 16 race calendar next year, but I bet it's not far off of that

2Pac, I don't think that most posters here would believe, truly, that setting up a new series is easy. I myself have said on several occassion in the past that it would not be easy, with tracks not wanting to lose their FIA accreditation etc.

But really, most people want to look for the positives, because if you only look at the negatives, you end up with more MM and BE and that is just depressing.

Kenneth Ramsey - I have an honest question.

How much courage would the FIA have had on the safety issue if it were not for Jackie Stewart's safety crusade. I can't pinpoint the initiating accident but I believe that it was the unfortunate death of his team mate at Watkins Glen due to an improperly attached lower section of ARMCO.

Calvin, trust me, some posters on here think to set up a new breakaway series is as easy as falling off a log!

I truly wish it were as I would love the FOTA series to succeed, if only to force the resignation of the two principle agitators.

But one, i can see them struggling for revenue and two, I can see it descending into self interest and in fighting between the teams. I especially don't trust Ferrari and Flavio, both seem to me to be as power hungry as the two we have at the moment.

@ Openpipes

great plan ... except ...

1) Bernie no longer owns F1, CVC does.

2) CVC borrowed $2Billion to pay Bernie for F1, so they're not likely willing to accept a few hundred million for it.

3) FOTA wouldnt be prepared to pay more than what it would cost them ... & the biggest cost is the F1 name.
'Bernie' charters available planes for transport, buys tickets on existing airlines for team members, books them into existing hotels, & does deal with existing TV networks. He does all of that with money he gets by selling what the teams provide.
There is nothing so advanced FOTA cant do that & cut out Bernies huge 'broker' fee.

"Of the 5 manufacturers in FOTA, which of them has received government assistance?

I dont think any have ... other than maybe Renault, but they've been owned by France since ... well, forever."

actually under euro scrappage schemes and various goverment backed cheap loans schemes I would suggest all of them... and you can add Fiat being given billions in US tax payers money to get Chryslser up and running..

The only car company that comes out of this with any sort of honour is Honda, Renault on the other hand seem to have done their usual and held people to ransome with threats of closing factories outside of france...

What colour is the sky on your planet Bernie? I really pity him if he actually believes what he's saying.

Still, sooner or later he'll get a slap round the face from reality.
