@ mrdood

moral of the story ...

history, international sanctioning bodies, etc all mean very little.

If the show is good, the fans will follow, the TV will follow, it will succeed.

What makes the show?
The competitors (in this case teams & drivers)
How you present it

Does FOTA have the ability to deliver those 2 things?
YES

Do they need FIA, Max, Bernie, CVC, the F1 name it order to deliver?
NO

F1 » Bernie: Teams need F1 more than F1 needs them

Bernie Ecclestone has warned the FOTA dissenters to think carefully before jumping ship and forming their own 'breakaway' series - arguing they wouldn't last a second without F1's support.

(cont.) ...how can you have a football match, without a referee?

I would dearly love to see this championship, because I honestly believe it would be a lot, lot, lot better. But as a realist I also have to say I'm doubtful about the logistics of it.

Maybe if they were organising it for a year or two's time, but this is very short notice.

Couple with a global financial crisis, I think they have a very tall order.

It does sadden me to say, but personally I struggle to see it succeeding.

Johnson, I'm sure you posted that question in irony, right?

If you bother to read my post the point that was too subtle for you was that to lose some of the F1 employees would be preferable to putting the whole company in jeopardy with the resulting loss of a lot MORE jobs. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.

Don't let that pointy hood cover your eyes and make you blinkered! pmsl

johnson, i see 2pac has resorted to his old habit of posting under a different name. i dont know what kmba means but i presume it is insulting, and he used the word mofo (what does that mean) on another thread. just shows his mentality. and he claims to be an engineer engaged in f1 developement! a bit childish, i think.

If there is a breakaway it is not very likely that there will even be an F1 series left to broadcast. Many of the new teams that applied are now looking at FOTA instead of F1. What are they going to do draft teams from GP2 to fill the grid?

The line about the teams needing F1 more than F1 needing the teams would be correct if only one or two teams were leaving. Max tried that line with Ferrari and this is part of the reason it has gotten this far. Does Bernie even realize that only two teams are staying? And will Force India stay in F1 if the breakaway becomes a reality?

pleasure to be of service richard.

Mark, I think the only reason they will stay in F1 if the breakaway goes ahead must be contractual. Maybe Williams doesn't think it could compete in a "money no object" FOTA championship being one of the smaller private teams.

If they were free to make a choice, and had the funds, I think they would go with FOTA.

What a load of ********! Bernie, *you* desperately need the teams so that you can make your $500 million/year debt service.
