This could not have ended on a worse note.

This idiotic soap opera, and the results thereof, will have no impact on either the fans or the insistence on sterile McTilke tracks. Any hope of cheaper tickets, or anything else that makes F1 more accesible, is gone.

We, as fans, lost here.

Why are people talking of "victory"?

From a fans perspective what has changed?

MM is STILL FIA president and will not seek re-election... nothing changed there then.

FOTA have accepted some form of budget capping... nothing changed there then although it appears the implementation of the budget cap is more realistic now.

We still don't have the circuits we wont, the Turkish GP next year will again be watched by one man and his camel!

Sorry, don't see what "victory" has been won!

@2pac

I think we should see the details of this agreement, i want to know how far FOTA have pushed the FIA.
ie. How big are the budget caps, because early 90's levels is very vague with no figure attached.

Also i understand he will not seek re-election.

Lets wait and see the fineprint, i fear max may have a few ghosts he hasnt outed yet

A witch hunt is all well and good provided you actually manage to get the witch.

I've a feeling in this instance that one or two of them may have slipped through the net!

Thank goodness for that, at last there is some sense to this ridiculous charade we call F1
I will be glad to see the back of Max, I think he is demoralising and a black cloud over the skies.

It would be very interesting to hear the transcript of the meeting, how far did they have to push before he lept??

@Johnson

you are quite right, like most things the devil is in the detail as they say.

do FOTA have their own web-site where they publish press releases?

FOTA had already said it would "target" a 50% cut in aero development spend, so assuming they have come to some agreement on how to do that (and they actually stick to it) then costs will go down and the required revene will drop, so costs to circuits can drop... therefore costs to punters can also drop. Why do you think they keep all the initial discussions in Jan 2008 so quiet, so people wouldn't start dropping the money coming into F1 before the expenses actually went down.
If they have stuck to the 2009 rules we can say goodbye to overtaking for another couple of years then.. hopefully next time around they go with a turbo engine and allow limited overboost usage.

If true, terrible news. No innovation, tracks still held at the point of a 30 millions dollar sanctioning fee-gun, megalomaniac Bernie still there....this could not be worse. We will still see neutered cars and even more neutered tracks. Max leaving is small consolation, very small.

how can you get Bernie out???? many posting comments on here have no idea of the pyramid of govenance in F1. Bernie is not elected.. he owns the commercial rights to F1 as contracted by the FIA.
and Jean Todt is hardly a candidate for the FIA... we are talking the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile. It is not Formula one. It is not just about Motorsport.

i seem to remember similar situations with the late Jean Marie Balestre... which led to the Concorde agreement. If the teams cant agree on that this time around.. what chance would they ever have going alone.
