Ghost: "Every series will, sooner or later, have to make some sort of green gesture."

Why? Making an F1 car more fuel efficient will make zero difference to the planet. Green gestures on the cars are political, not scientific. It would make more difference to the planet if they made Bernie travel by road instead of arriving at circuits by private helicopter. It would make more difference if they held more races in Europe so they don't have so many long haul flights shipping the circus around to empty stadiums in Turkey etc. On the other hand, an empty stadium in Turkey means no CO2 footprint from 20,000 cars bringing spectators.

F1 » Ferrari: 2009 not a write off... yet

The Scuderia can still get something out of this season, that's the prediction of Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo.

I know this doesnt have anything to do with this article, what i want to know is why are celebrating doughnuts banned after the race? I think it shows the drivers emotions and brings life into a sport so strict on rules and penaltys.

I liked the KERS concept. Every series will, sooner or later, have to make some sort of green gesture. I can imagine far worse. The battery-based systems might be a little redundant of what is occurring outside motor racing, but the flywheel-based system had potential to make a general contribution that F1 could maybe point to in the future as partial justification. Maybe FOTA can pretend they thought of it themselves and keep it.

I liked it too, but not the imposition of it. I thought Mclaren devised a kers system years ago but were not allowed to use it. If kers was going to have green credibility then they should have been allowed to make max use of it, not limit it to seven secs per lap, and put a fuel limit on the cars per race, so that the more kinetic energy an engine recovers, the more advantage it has to offset the weight and balance issues of the kers units.

Alan D. Of course the reality is that developing KERS will consume far more resources than it will race fuel. It's about appearances and avoiding being the next villain to mindless green types. To be able to say you are developing something green means the alligator goes to bite someone else. For now. I am just enjoying the coolest summer in 11 years. But hey....

The last time the aero rules were changed Ferrari had a pretty poor season in 05. They didnt write that one off, they improved it and managed to beat Midland and Minardi at Indy, Schumacher finishing second in Hungry was probably the peak of a season that saw them steal third from Toyota.
As the only team still commited to using KERS this year, Monza could be the savior for the Reds this year, and Toyota are again the target.
The drivers may be the ones who have to raise there games as Schumacher finished the year in third, ahead of Fisichella and Montoya who were both in championship contending cars.
