I needs to be someone outside F1.

Ari Vatanan is the perfect candidate, he has the political skills, he's approachable and well liked and respected....all the things Mosley isn't.

Todt or Dennis, you couldn't have either.

Could two of F1's heavyweight former team bosses be set to battle of FIA presidency?

Whoever gets MM's job should have F1 experience so that they are in a good position to comment and advise on the goings on within the sport. Someone from another form of motorsport may struggle and flounder a bit for a while.

The sure and guaranteed thing is that who ever replaces MM as president will not garner 100% approvals.
Although there will be some influence on the choese of president it is only the FIA's say who will be chosen.

Whomever takes over the Presidency has to have no links to any current F1 team. It would start countless fights from all parties if either Todt or Dennis got the gig. Thing is how many truly independant people are there?? damn few I suspect so finding the right fit might well be a challenge...but it certainly doesnt mean MM should try and stick around.

WOW!! 10 disagrees for stating the most sensible comment here. Let me explain my comment to those of you who need it explaining. I work in a job where I am governed by a professional body which makes-up rules, procedures, code of coduct etc. A lot of the governance which we are given is to be blunt bullsh1t. Why is this? Because the folk that are writing these rules have been out of day-to-day working for so long and in some cases have no experience in what the job I do entails! This is exactly the same problem with the FIA. Max is a lawyer not a former driver, engineer etc. The person at the top of the tree needs to have grass roots experience.

The head of the FIA, whoever it is, shouldn't be trying to run F1. F1 is just one series run under the FIA umbrella and it is ridiculous that the head of the FIA thinks it is his job to make the rules and issue press releases about F1 every week. The best thing a new FIA president could do is divorce themselves from F1 and create a proper f1 governance body made up of several former participants like RD, JT, JYS etc.

Why worry about any of this at all? Max isn't going to step down voluntarily, so it's a moot point.

In order for Mosely to leave the FIA, he's going to have to be forced out, ousted. Perhaps another scandal will come up, perhaps the FIA senate will grow (finally) tired of the old bastard, but he will never willingly leave.

I'm for FOTA to breakaway. Maybe the racing would be worth watching again.

Max had is own F1 team and they were pretty poor.
That's probably why he hates Ron Dennis.
He's had plenty of F1 experience and still seems to screw up every time he opens his mouth.
He has no idea about team funding and budgets or he wouldn't have come out with all the capping cr1p ideas in the way he done.
Max has done a great job in proving that after Running a F1 team and years of being top FIAasco honcho experience is no pointer to being fit for the top job! :)

@Munro Grow - thanks for that. The point I'm trying (and failing) to make is that the folk at the top of my professional body often have no clue. This is the problem with F1. The have a lawyer at the top not some one who has worked at "ground level" and understands fully the implications of them creating new rules. If Max had any real F1 experience he would not have demanded that the 40mill cap came into effect in such an unreal timescale.

And yes I know MM was involved in Simtek, but they were hardly a glowing success. Didn't even last 2 years I think.
