More F1 drivers need to follow Kimi and Sebastian Bourdais' lead and do some racing outside of F1 in their downtime.

Drivers did it all of the time in the old days, its a shame more don't do it now.

How about some current F1 stars in the 24 Hours of Daytona? Drivers seem to love that race and it happens in the off-season.

steve, this used to be the case, but with the advent of very high salaries, the teams put bans on drivers competing in other forms of motor sport, so as to avoid injury and possible loss of wdc/cc. but i am surprised that ferrari have allowed kimi to drive in wrc, unless they have given up on him this year. f1 drivers used to compete in sports cars, saloons, f2, f3 etc etc. but yes, i wish they would still be driving in other disciplines. a multi discipline championship would really show who is the best driver!

Should go the whole hog and put Loeb in Kimi's Ferrari. Don't know about banning drivers competing in other forms of motor sport, but they forgot to keep Webber off his bicycle...

Richard - yeah last year I don't think Ferrari would have let Kimi do this - but this year, why not - there's no way him or Massa can make any dent on the drivers championship, and the constructors is going to be 3rd at best, which is hardly a position oozing prestige. This is possibly better publicity than they'll get in F1.

So fair play to them for allowing this, and it'll be great to see how he goes. Love to see him, Loeb and Rossi in the same championship at some point.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has said that he is convinced the Scuderia will get some 'satisfaction' before the end of the current F1 season.

He's a dreamer and obviously FIA affiliated clubs want Mosley to put him in his place because they can see he will take F1 to disaster.

Teams might put bans on their drivers competing in other championships but this can be negotiated when they sign their contracts perhaps supplemented with some type of insurance. I'm sure rossi has certain events written into his contract - calender dates permitting of course.

Would love to see him in Focus RS :)
With due respect to Scuderia's Fiat Punto Abarth, that's not even remotely the right car for Iceman.

focused (not biased, are you). the abarth is a very handy rally car and is very successful in irc and s2000. ok, it is not a 4wd wrc car proper, but given the speeds that THEY do, it is far more sensible to have kimi in a more customer orientated car. maybe if he did well, he could move to a wrc car. oh i forgot, wrc is going to s2000 rules next year, so maybe it is not such a bad idea to drive one now. anyway, kimi is contracted to ferrari/fiat, so it would not happen that he would drive a ford.

GREAT NEWS!!!
cross over drives/ rides are highly appealing to fans worldwide. look at race of champions... how good is it seeing travis pastrana up against DC and the like?
bikes should have the same deal going... ferrari stopping him??? didn't work for mclaren did it??? old james hunt managed to dust of the old helmet for the odd snowmobile and speed boat race...
top level competition seems to strangle personalities... the side of kimi that he hides from us is the same side that made us all adore the likes of his name sake james hunt.... rossi is the class act here and proves that winning on sunday -WITH personality- sells more on monday than winning alone
