It would be better to abandon this two tyre nonsense altogether and let the teams chose there own tyres up to the quantity limit.

The problem with that is one of logistics, Bridgestone has to transport enough tyres to the GP for all the teams.

It is possible, but not practical to transport 6 sets of 4 different compounds for 20 cars, so they limit it to 2 compounds. 1/2 of which dont get used anyway.

Also because of the huge difference between the characteristics of super soft to hard no-one using hard tyres is going to go anywhere near the super softs.

Well, that will probably work to Brawn's favour, certainly if the temperatures are lower at both those races. Can't see it being bilstering at Spa.

This thing with the option tyre and wotnot is just a joke. They should go back to the days of being able to use whatever compound they like.

It is utterly ridiculous that a tyre company has this much influence on the regulations. The two-tyre rule should be abandoned. How many trucks does Bridgestone need to haul tyres right now? They'll have at least 4 different sets (including the rain sets), so a couple more may mean another truck, but so what? If they can't manage this, then find another supplier.

I recall this rule (along with the white stripe marking) was added when Michelin left F1 and Bridgestone wanted to keep people talking about tyres. Well I want to see real racing, not some poor bloke who's moving backwards through the grid solely because he's on the (enforced) bad tyre.

At last Bridgestone begins to back away from this ridiculous marketing strategy!
Could this mean that they will no longer bring intentionally wrong tires to each race? We, and the drivers, can only hope. If they want to see interesting tire strategies by the teams then let the teams choose which tires to race. Or, they can save tons of money by bringing one type of dry tire to each race. Either way it will be a competitive situation instead of a corporate mandate.

Wow thanks Bridgestone, I thought the whole point of this rule was to liven up racing by forcing the teams to run tyres that aren't necessarily suitable for the race, hence creating a performance differential that may lead to more overtaking and varied strategies.

All this acheives is to effectively remove that relatively small unknown factor that might have livened up the races as lets face it the last few have been pretty damn dull. :?

If the two are going to be one step apart they may as well not bother as they have been doing this for a couple seasons now and the performace difference is so minimal it adds next to nothing to the race
