Respect for Institutions is not cast in stone, those Institutions must earn and deserve that respect, anyone saying they will defend to the death their Institutions should perhaps be living in one!

F1 » 'Unless Mosley has gone mad, he won't back Todt'

Max Mosley would only back Jean Todt for FIA President if he 'has gone even more mad', argues Carlos Gracia - who suggests FOTA's 'lack of respect' may lead the Englishman to stand again.

FOTA would do well to make soothing noises to MM so he goes. Once he's gone then stick the boot in.

"Once he's gone then stick the boot in"

surely once he's gone there is no need to stick the boot in, as it removes the apparent issues that FOTA have with the FIA

(if you believe that's the real issue here and not Ferrari wanting a bigger say in things than just a single WMSC vote as they do now)

“Unless Max has gone even more mad, I don't think he'll back Jean Todt because we all know where he comes from and who he's linked to,” - More mad? So Garcia, a Mosely supporter, thinks he's crackers too!

That's a pretty big "unless."

Al, I was meaning that they say nice things for a while, Spanky goes, and then they don't have to watch their Ps and Qs. It's a perfect plan but the egos in FOTA would never go for it. To be seen to be backing down may be seen as a sign of weakness rather than a clever game plan.

Y'all keep forgetting the FIA is about motorING not just motorSPORT. MM may be mad but at least his madness is even-handed. JT, LdM, and for that matter RD would just find it too difficult to see the bigger picture, trouble is I can't think of anyone else! Mrs Gassolini's view on who it should be is currently: 1, Brosnan, 2, Craig, 3, Di Montezemolo, 4 Moseley,....... 100000001 Todt.

Crash have missed out the second part of the quote where Carlos says he is worried for 'the future of Spanish Motorsport' if he ran against Max...

Whatever could he mean ?

That Max is a vindictive mad old bully who always makes life impossible for anybody who could possibly challenge his authority ?

If that were true, it would be possible to draw some rather unpleasant paralells between his FIA leadership and his so called "Private Life"

@Piercarlogassolini... There is nothing even handed about a $100M fine, when Renault's far worse, teamwide cheating went unpunished.....

@Alex - I was surpirsed that they left that part of the quote out too. I was looking forward to the comments when they finally got around to posting this story. The full quote is on the Autosport site.

On Renault I think that the difference in the punsishment is down to how the case was handled. McLcaren initially received no punishment either. It was not until they were shown to have given false testimony that the $100m fine was imposed. Basically the FIA has shown that lying to them is worse than cheating.

Max Mosley would only back Jean Todt for FIA President if he 'has gone even more mad',

But we all know he's going to back Todt anyway, he's been saying so for a while now...
Does that mean he is mad?.... I don't believe that for one minute.

The FIA may be about motoring but they seem to be increasingly estranged from any understanding of motor-SPORT!
