The re-introduction of a private engine manufacturer was pretty important.

I've always sensed that having private teams buying engines off of manufacturers (i.e. Williams Toyota) often had negative side effects (e.g. Williams being forced to run Nakajima). I believe that in the past, some teams running Ferrari customer engines required the revs be turned down.

So it's not such a bad thing that Cosworth will have a pretty big foot in the door of F1 again. In an ideal world, all the engine manufacturers would be seperate to chassis builders.

Of course, as usual, the FIA's methods are questionable at best.

Does anybody believe that it is right to have one type of engine capable of 20k rpm while all the others are limited to 18k rpm ? Does anybody agree with MM that Cosworth does not have the time to detune the engine ? Does anybody believe that FOTA will except this ? I read somewere that FOTA is to demand that the new team selection process is not just reviewed but started from scratch,FOTA WANTS TO CLEAN F1 OF ALL THE DIRT OF MM.

I posted this story almost 2 weeks ago. I hope FOTA do demand a new review of the applications. What a sick setup MM has spawned. I wonder what his epitaph will say. Will he be remembered for NCAP crash tests. Not likely. FLASH3

I suppose allowing the new customer engines to rev higher makes some sense in that in theory the new teams won't be able to spend as much as the other established teams. By allowing their engines to rev higher they might be able to compete if their car is lacking in other areas such as the aero. It could back-fire and Cosworth's engine turns out to be fantastic.

Johnson perhaps you should read a bit more. Darwin Never said or printed "survival of the fittest." That came late by another British fellow. Cossie on the other hand probably did get special help from the FIA and so goes the world. It is who you know, not what you have to offer. At this point it is a total mess anyway.

F1 is not a democracy, pay attention at the back there. Bernie owns F1 and the FIA run it for the owner as well as the fans and teams.
If you do not like it then buy it if you can.
Letting the big car manufacturers monopolies engine supply is a complete no no and would aid them through Fota in their attempt to oust Max and Bernie.
The car manufacturers and the oil companies cannot afford to even look a the coming electric car revolution when they rely solely on the public for tax bail outs and the oil wars for further revenue.

Unless MM/FIA are willing to carry the consequences of the wholly contaminated decisions taken F1 is still in big trouble. 4 of the contaminated decisions taken by MM/FIA are,political selection of new teams,new teams selected on condition they use Cosworth engines,new teams entered under a budget cap,Cosworth engines to have 20k rpm,These 4 items cannot materialize next year as FOTA teams agreed to enter on condition that 2009 rules stands which means,18k rpm engines,no pre condition whose engine to use,and no budget cap,note that anbody who agreed to enter under contaminated conditions is contaminated.

What I do not get, is why the engines Have to be rev restricted in the first place. If the teams want to go to the limit--as should be done--let them blow up and out. Restrictions on developement sooner or later leads to Spec. CCs or cubic inch restrictions level the cars to a degree, but rev limits are garbage. That takes from compitition and has not worked to close the field. Even spec series Indy Car now has run-aways due to limits on the teams. Sad year for open wheel on both sides of the pond.
