The re-introduction of a private engine manufacturer was pretty important.

I've always sensed that having private teams buying engines off of manufacturers (i.e. Williams Toyota) often had negative side effects (e.g. Williams being forced to run Nakajima). I believe that in the past, some teams running Ferrari customer engines required the revs be turned down.

So it's not such a bad thing that Cosworth will have a pretty big foot in the door of F1 again. In an ideal world, all the engine manufacturers would be seperate to chassis builders.

Of course, as usual, the FIA's methods are questionable at best.

Racy, I think the rev limit was intended as a way of reducing wear and tear on the engine meaning they last longer and are cheaper to build. On the other hand, there are other engine restrictions in place which I think were just intended to slow down the cars, such as the ban on variable air intake trumpets.

@sunny103 - what are you implying?

Seriously though, this is obviously aimed at allowing the new teams to be competitive 'cos in theory, the new team won't have a chance otherwise. Where this fall flat on its backside is if one of the new teams is ultra organised and somehow builds a fantastic car and has an engine that has unlimited revs and trounces everyone. Plus, on of the high-ups in Manor is a friend of Mosley.

Fine Alan, I was aware of the intention of the rev limit rule--make them last longer. Look at spec racing, Nascrap, Indy, and so on. The excitment has been removed for the so called "close racing and more passing." It has not worked and except for Off Road, has slowly turned into Way Ahead or Way Back. Of course offroad rarely has side to side excitment. Perhaps monster trucks are the last hope.

This just proves that MOSLEY was planning to introduce at a later date for a 1 spec engine for all teams and then 1 chassis, 1 fuel and oil supplier, a 1 make series his vision, I think FOTA did the wrong thing when they cancelled there planned series and they still have ecclestone on board who is as much to blame as Mosley was, took the British GP from silverstone because he charges to much to just host a GP and Fuji circuit has pulled the plug because of the fee, i believe this is not over just yet

Yes I too believe it is not over yet, that's what I was trying to say regardless of the disagrees most probably by that Muppet, And when the presidency thing is over MM will still be troublesome in his new seat, that is one thing why I said way back that FOTA should have declared that there is no way it can work with the FIA as long as MM have anything to do with the FIA.
Andrew,it's ok forget it, I suppose you can post whatever you like, it's your right.

so let Aston Martin, Lola, Prodrive, etc. report the FIA for breaching Article 82 of the EU Competition Law - the allegations (if true would) indicate anti-competitive behaviour by the FIA and a breach of competition rules. Microsoft were fined twice for it, a total of over one billion euros, putting McLaren's 'Ferrari fine' firmly in the shade.
