As much as i'd like to see Ecclestone go, he should not go because of this. His comments were not directed at anyone and he was just speaking his mind which, agree with it or not, should be applauded.
Infact, if you read between the lines and avoid the media frenzy his comments about strong leadership make sense.

F1 » Ecclestone: I was an idiot, but I won't resign

Bernie Ecclestone has refused to bow to calls for him to resign from his post in the wake of his 'foolish' Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein comments - as teams are urged to boycott F1.

And why should he resign? He spoke his mind and that cannot be a bad thing. If everyone spoke their mind the world would be a better place. He mabye has different political views which are less than desirable but so what? Doesn't really affect the day to day running of anyone elses lives and he still does his job to the same standard and runs the commercial side of F1 to the same standard. I don't think this really matters in the grand scheme of things.

Formula one is beginning to look like a pair of Crocs - they've shot themselves in the foot that many times! Time to pass the reins to a younger, more switched on group of leaders - can't think of anyone better than Mr Vatanen!!

Vatanen does not own the Formula one brand, Ecclestone do. There's a difference between the elected leader of the legislative body and the boss of the company owning the commercial rights

Actually, Bernie just spoke what is in his mind, and we are all entitiled to our own opition, the bad thing is, he is heading Formula 1 which consist of multiple Nationality.. Germans, Polish, Finns.. etc. So what he did is wrong in his current position. On the other side in regards with teams to boycott F1, is just rubbish and just using their momentum from beating FIA and Max.. They should all have open minds.

@andrewm

Bernie has the right to have an opinion, but a public figure like him shouldn't publicly say "you know what, Hitler had some good idea's." It was a dumb thing to say. And his opinions are dumb at the best of times.
As for him resigning, how many reasons do you want? He's a fascist, he's exploiting the circuits, he gives Grand Prix to the highest bidder, he's greedy, he's running the sport into the ground, I could go on.
Oh and by the way, nobody has a vendetta against you, it's just that you talk b0ll0x.

As far as I understand it Bernie does not own F1... CVC Venture Capital does. I heard that our little silver haired friend had a 'come to Jesus' meeting with them on Monday and very quickly his apology appeared. There is no other industry where a leading executive could get away with such behavior... he really should stand down. The problem is, as I see it, is that Bernie & Max think they are the sport and without them it will fail. This is not the case... and if it is the case then it deserves to disappear. Brawn for President, I say! :p

Opinions are like R's holes. Everybody has one. The difference is that rational individuals tend to keep them private.

poltus - Astute comment. A commercial entity cannot have an idiot senior director insulting a large segment of the entity's customers. If CVC would stiffen its spine and depose Bernie, F1 might survive in something similar to its current form with CVC still reapiing profits and no court fight.

However, I enjoy seeing Greedy twisting in the wind. :)

As has been said , Its fine to have an opinion , But the point is that a man in his position should know better than to make this sort of view public , and that IS the point , he made a serious error of judgement ( again ) but seems to think he can just bounce along ,it is scarey that he says before he thinks in the position he is in ..

@Alec X - thank you for that constructive comment. Incase you hadn't noticed there is no talking involved here just typing.

Lets face it, do Bernie's comments really matter? No, they don't. So what he admires a dictator. Whoop de doo. It is actually possible to admire someone but not like them or share their political beleifs. For example, I admire the acheivements of Hamilton but I don't like the guy. It's not as if Bernie is a high ranking politian who could cause an international crisis, he is just a businessman. When all is said and done people will still watch F1 and the teams will still race. This is really of no importance.
