F1 » Alguersuari admits STR drive in second half of 2009 a 'possibility'

World Series by Renault star Jaime Alguersuari has revealed that there is a 'possibility' of him gaining an STR race drive in 2009, as his predecessor in the Red Bull reserve role, Brendon Hartley, explains his reasons for stepping down.

I've just read that Bourdais would get the boot from STR after this German GPO on a French web site.

What pains me in advance is that Tost and co will certainly try and demolish his reputation furthermore in the media - as if it was needed - to justify their decision.

Although it's true Seb's sheer results have been disappointing, he'd been setting the records straight in terms of performance compared to Buemi lately.

I won't be too surprised if it happens because when you drive for a RB team, you're always in jeopardy if you're not from the 'family' !

Anyway, I wish Seabass isn't keen on letting down his dream at the moment since there are new opportunities for next year(s). Hang on !

Time for SeBass to go me thinks. No real loss. He has the attitude that he is better than he really is and has done nothing in F1 despite last years STR coming good towards the end of the year. If Alguersuari is better then fair enough, ditch SeBass so he can go back to Chimp Car.

I agree with ericpace's comment, but for a different reason... I'm a Kiwi and would love to see Hartley in F1, but I think he would be better to ply his trade in the junior categories for at least a couple more years... nothing worse than being thrown in at the deep end and sinking.

Seb Bord hasnt cut it like so many others from the US scene still a quality driver though. RB Racing have shown a commitment to developing young drivers in our sport, good on them, in Hartleys case he would not have had the opportunities he has to be a F1 driver without their support. Sometimes better to be patient than accept an early opportunity, Hartley has always had the speed advantage over Alguersuari there is however the backing of a Giant Spanish Oil Company and well connected father to consider. Lets see how he fairs against the very fast Seb Buemi I think we may see the spaniard struggle to hang onto to a long term seat and his funds may end up at one of the three new outfits.
