Can I point out the blatantly obvious to all the posters that keep ranting on about "cheating" please?

THE TEAMS HAVE SAID IT IS OKAY FOR HIM TO DO THIS. THEY ARE NOW AWAITING FIA APPROVAL. THIS IS NOT CHEATING!! THIS IS BEING ALLOWIED TO DO SOMETHING!!

IF YOU'RE NOT A FERRARI AND / OR SCHUMACHER FAN WHY POST HERE? ARE YOU LIVES SO EMPTY THAT YOU HAVE TO BORE OTHERS WITH YOUR DRIVEL?

End of short rant.

This doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the rules if you ask me - a test ban is a test ban.

Once you starting bending the rules like this where do you draw the line?

Typical of Schumacher/Ferrari to exploit this 'loop hole'.

The FIA should take action and warn them this is just not acceptable.

Testing really is about developing your current car - checking out new parts and evolving the package. I cannot see how this is 'bending the rules' - the car he is driving is so completely different, all he will do is to get himself into shape. Period.

@Grant - If you read the report you will see that they are not allowed to test this year or last years cars. Nothing wrong with an 07 car.

It is a sign of someone who is good at what they do that they can find (as you call them) loopholes and oush the boundaries.

Im not a massive fan i like schumi but i also like hamilton and other drivers. so please dont flame me for saying this but.

i have to disagree with the 1st comment testing to me means you cant take a new car out and test the car or practice with it the 2007 car is so old compared to the curent farrari he is simply going to achieve track time nothing else.

and the FIA are a bunch of ****s if they investigated anything else i would simply give up with F1

to me theres nothign different to drive an old F1 car to driving a brand new GP2 car??? there both open wheelers where he can practice.

It's good to see Schumacher back but there will be big risk on his reputation. It will be obvious that if Hamilton beat Schumi -( which is expected, since schumi has been retired for 3 years with not much experience on the 2009 spec car )-.... then Hamilton fanboys will just simply say that Lewis is better than Michael, not only the fanboys but also the british press, notably "CRASH.NET"... A single race that Lewis beat Schumi, the 7 time WDC and 91 wins won't matter. That is how pathetic Lewis fanboys and British press are..

So why didn't Jaime Alguersuari simply test and test and test a 2007 Toro Rosso or Red Bull or Ferrari - or anything else he could hire? Why is Romain Grosjean only doing straight-line tests on a war museum runaway? In fact, why didn't Piquet get all the seat-time he needed, albeit in a 2 year-old Renault?

Ferrari will have two drivers who dont really have anything to prove in Valencia, the car should be ok there, Jenson Button should be happy because the potential to take points of Red Bull has increased. Has anyone ever won four races back to back and failed to win the WDC?
Also Jamie Aga- wotsis-name has been driving in F3, GP2 or something

Cris- No, Schumacher is in a win-win situation, if he beats Hamilton, everyone will say 'see Hamilton can't even beat a retired driver' (even though he'll have beaten Vettel, Button, etc too) and if he doesn't it'll be 'ah well, he hasn't driven for 3 years, Schumacher would easily have beaten Hamilton in the past'.
Meanwhile, Hamilton can't win either way! :p

To those who clearly have problems grasping the simple things, a 2007 car is not a current car, the rules, aero, technical and tyres are completely different. That's why at events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed the current drivers take last years or older cars up the hill. Same thing with Schumacher, he can drive a 2007 anywhere he likes as often as he likes as it holds no connection with the current 2009 car. He is only doing it because he hasn't driven an F1 car since 2008, so he needs to check his fitness in the car, his neck anything he wants. Yes they could put Algesuari in the old car as well but what point would that prove, Schumacher is only do this for fitness not to learn F1.
