Can't agree with the “shame on F1” bit. Zanardi and Bourdais had both been at the top in America and were given F1 drives and both struggled. If you've already taken the best from American racing and they're not good enough why would you try someone from lower down?

If I recall correctly - Michael's teammate was a fellow named Senna - Michael was never given the proper chance to prove himself - let alone to deal with his wife at the time.

There are a lot of countries in the world that are not represented in F1,... Norway, New Zealand, Nepal, and Nigeria, to name just a few, but Netherlands did get a driver for a brief spell. Is Peter Windsor suggesting it is shame on F1 for all of these countries not being represented, or is the USA a special case?

What he doesn't get is that F1 is not run on nationalistic lines. Its about the best drivers wanting to drive the best cars and many of those drivers and their families make huge sacrifices to get into F1. No, what F1 should be ashamed of is that it allows in mediocre drivers who have big sponsorship, whatever country they come from.

robsurrey. i think that he is referring to AMERICAN drivers, not europeans who have gone to america to drive. there have ben one or two good drivers from usa, phil hill, mario andretti. dan gurney, but all others have failed, even speed, who some are touting for usf1. being british, does windsor moan in the usa, that there are not enough brits??? at the end of the day, nationality should not be an issue or criteria. if usf1 comes on the grid, i wait with bated breath, to see the next f1 champ from america!

@ Cornelius

A certain Mika Hakkinen outqualified Senna in his FIRST race for mclaren.....as a mid season replacment too.

I dont know his personal issues at the time but if they were affecting him so much why let him drive?
Andretti was BAD get over it man.
