he pranged the new front wing (which they only have one off) and they couldn't repair it in time so he sat out the rest of the session.

the fact they didn't send him out with an 'old' design front wing says to me they are pretty confident about their performance at this track. what do you guys think?

rob01 - true he did pity they did not have any spare noses so he could have rejoined the session.

I think alonso will be running on fumes in the renault again to get a time like that i am not convinced it is that fast a car yet.

Regarding Hamilton, he didn't break the wing. It was the bracket on the car which holds the front wing which broke so they didn't have the option of fitting either the old wing or the new wing and needed to strip the car down to repair the bracket.

It wasn't really clear how it broke. He was going pretty quick at that point in the lap when the car slid, the tail stepped out but it didn't look like he'd hit anything. If he did clip the kerb or wall with the wing then it was the lightest of touches so perhaps the mounting bracket was already damaged and perhaps it was the broken bracket which upset the balance of the car and caused the slide.

Practice is only practice. But given Brawn's usual disregard of the practice time pecking order in favor of setups, testing, etc, you have to wonder if their sessions aren't the top story. Temps are up, but can that really be all the difference? Have they updated such as to re-set their advantage back to the beginning of the season? Tomorrow is huge. If they both qual top 3, the season may be over. Again.
