That track record was unofficial though, if I recall correctly. There weren't any official times from stated by the team.

So who knows if it really happened, and moreover, in what spec they ran the car if it did

Erm, I think you will find that Bortolotti set the lap record of the session at 59.111. The absolute lap record is a 55.999 from Schumacher in the F2004 and Massa drove a 58.366 with the F2007 (the same car). :)
Not saying that he is'nt a talent tho.. he certainly was impressive versus the other 2 rookies on the day.

So this 19 year old kid jumps in a Ferrari and sets a time faster than Shumacher, Raikkonen, and Massa have ever gone at Fiorano? A place where all have done 1000s of miles? I find that hard to believe. If he did that than that would be HIGHLY impressive. Surely if he did that Ferrari has some sort of contract or option with him.

Peter, when I read the article I wondered what sort of car they'd used for the driver tests (given that they couldn't use the current car) but I think you've answered it for me. Are you saying that Bortolotti used the F2007, the same as Massa was using when he set his fastest lap? 58ish seconds a lap means the Ferrari test track is quite a significant size, as big as some of the tracks used for IRL races!

Bortolotti is in fact real fast olive oil.
It slides down your gullet quicker than spiced anchovy.

Who cares about some no name driver.
If he does the business and brings home silverware in his first race then lets laud the boy.
Until then i dont care if he did a 3 second lap of fiorano in the death star!
